they wanted $1800 to do the timing belt, water pump and replace all fluids.
I called the toyota dealer and they wanted less than $1000. sheesh and i get a loaner. 😉

 
The lexus dealership wouldn't give you a loaner for $1800 worth of service?

Did you check a local shop to see what they should charge?
 
That's the problem with most luxury cars. Dealers figure if you can afford the car, you do not care what it will cost to fix it. So they jack up the prices. Since Toyota is willing to work on it, let them do it. It is after all, basically the same drivetrain and body with some minor changes to call it a Lexus.

timing belt job = 300-400, fluids i can do myself....

water pump radiator i can do myself too

For many cars if you can't replace a timing belt you can't replace the water pump. You've got to remove the belt to get to the pump.
 
I've found a big difference in price for service just among Toyota dealerships in my area. For what one wanted $90 for I got done at another dealer for $50.

 
Random coolant fluid change question:

When changing the coolant how do you get it all out? Also isn't it bad to pour cold water/coolant on a hot engine block when changing the fluid? Won't it damage it?

There can be a drain plug to get most of it out along with emptying the radiator. Personally, I've always taken the lazier and costlier but much easier route of dumping the radiator, refilling, letting it run for a while, and repeating the process until the vast majority of fluid is gone.

 
Ripoff at both places, who the hell goes to dealers?

500 tops for that job at general mechanic and he'd probably do a better job than the dealer.

You shouldn't be doing anything coolant related with a hot engine in the first place.
