Or you can live in a place where you can own a house AND be 5 minutes from work, and not pay an arm and a leg for it

You actually do pay arms via shoveling the 9 months worth of snow/year from your driveway.

Some people actually pay for that by going to the gym. I get it for free. :p

I'm also giving out several free gym memberships to anyone interested, bring your own shovel.

Well looks like they're doing it wrong. Will be moving to the bay area by April it appears. So far company is giving me:

$3500/mo for housing
$500/mo for car
$50/day for food
All tax free.

6 figure salary, paid overtime.

That'd the thing though, most places where it's cheap, like you said, the jobs aren't there so for many jobs, you have to live in an area with a higher coat of living and take that into consideration while negotiating for a your salary.

Yeah seems to be a double edged sword, you can live in a nice quiet area that's cheap to live in and where you get a nicer property, but then it's harder to find a job.

And many of us don't really want to live in super rural areas either. (Or we can't because there are no jobs there)

The only reason I'm here is because there's so many fucking jobs. It's literally the only place in the country I could get a job.

Now what wisdom can you offer us as to why it is so expensive to live in your area?
