Well, i'm planning on getting a 100ft ethernet cable...

Does anyone know the difference between Cat6 and Cat5e? Are there any performance difference (in real world)? Is it worth the extra money?

Cat6 is nearly about the same price. So i suggest get Cat6 🙂 .
Noob version:
Cat5e = 200Mbits
Cat6 = 1000Mbits
CAT5e is rated for 200Mbps and CAT6 is rated for gigabit Ethernet.

Technical
They use the same cable but the twist it more. the rest you can figure out by googling

Cat5E is gigabit ethernet. I agree if the price is the same and that matters to you then get Cat6. Don't buy it because you think Cat5E can't do gigabit. It can and will as long as the ends are properly crimped. Same holds true for Cat6 by the way. If it isn't terminated properly then you won't get what the cable is capable of.

Actually cat5e and cat6 don't use the same cable.

Cat6 uses a larger cable pair. 24 gauge vs 26 gauge I believe.

yea the price is about the same....do both perform similar or would there be a difference in real world? Can both of them withstand a lot of pressure (plan on putting it under the wall or something)?

If it isn't cat6 end to end then its not cat6.

Good thing this isn't P&N 's are a bad thing there.

100ft and more I use Cat 7, triple shielded cable.

I normally get 400ft out of it.
