Yeah, they have a yellow brown cast and don't get real dark. It takes some time to go each way. You don't really notice them but then I don't realy think I squint either. I like them.

I got polariods for the calif high sun freeway.

The major complaint about transition lenses is that they return slowly to their lightest tint. In direct sun they transition pretty quickly, pretty fast in reflected sun too. There are different lenses you can buy some are darker outside and stay a lttle darker inside than others. but none get completely clear when you are indoors.

Well it depends on how you take it (it will be lighter in ten seconds). They will go back most of the way in ten seconds on some of the new lenses but even all the way back they still have some tint in them. especially if you get some of the darker ones. Try them out at your local optical. They should have demo lenses.

I read on this forum that they are bad for your eyes.. reduce sensitivity in the dark. I don't know why though.

I liked the concept when I bought them, however what seemed like a few small things added up to me deciding against them for my current pair of glasses:

They don't get all that dark.
They will not get dark in your car.
Persistant tint, never really "clear".

I simply couldn't get over the fact that they won't darken in the car. I bought them for sunglass replacement, but I need sunglasses when behind the wheel so it was all in vain.

My recent pair of glasses have magnetic "clip-ons" uv lenses. They are awesome--but the frames were somewhat expensive at around $400.......I've seen similar lenses at lenscrafters under the brand "easyclips" that are more reasonably priced.

If they won't darken in the car Corn, and I'm not actually sure they won't it's probably because UV radiation is what triggers the reaction that darkens them. You could simply, in that case, get a quartz window. Out of the light the lenses are almost imperceptilby tinted. You have to look through the edges to really see it.

The persistant tint was noticable to me. It's not like it was unbearably dark, just that everthing was slightly brown (even though the lenses tinted grey)......

Being a life long spectacle user I have this to say.

They are awesome for the most part. Somtimes in very bright light its not enough darkness but it defiantely is a lot better than seeing without it.

I have had 2 pairs of transisition lenses (god how i lived without those i never know).. and the first pair was actually darker than this pair in bright sunlight.

The reason.. I change lense materials every year.. I get the latest plastic lenses.

As for time taken, depending on teh amount of UV (that's how it primarly works i think - but then it works great on overcast days) it can take from 1.30 minutes to 5 minutes to darken, and its gradual.. on reverse its the same.. its taken 10 minutes to change color back to clear at one time.

I love it.. I am getting a new pair soon..so lets see how that goes.

By the way there is Photochrome - yellow lenses --> black / brown and there is Photogray - Clear Lenses --> gray/black.
