They aren't, always. But let's put it this way:

Average TC for a set of sheets: 200-300
TC for this set of sheets: 1000

These sheets are MUCH higher quality than most queen sized sheets. So yes, it's a great deal.

They are not counting threads correctly. The average "300 thread count" sheet is counted the other direction.

These sheets are ok, better than average, but not top of the line.

If you are looking for really good sheets, look at hotel suite, or brands in its level. These sheets are great for a guest bedroom, but I am a sheet snob, just like most of the folks are computer geeks.

Well, I bought 1000TC sheets from smartbargain, and they rock. And given the price/quality ratio, I think one would be hard-pressed to beat this deal.

Tough to say if these are good without some feedback. As Trey mentioned, it is apparently acceptable practice to count threads wrong in the bedding industry. You can't tell quality based on TC.

How can you tell they are not counting threads correctly?

Would like some more information.... Reviews would really help, or other options at similar prices. Anything to base a quality/price on.

You're not going able to find legit info. Here is a blurb from Consumer Reports 8/05 issue.

"Some thread counts are bogus

Thread count is the new marketing mantra for sheets. The higher the better, you?ll hear. But some sheet makers are boosting thread count simply by counting wrong.

The right way to count is to add up all vertical and horizontal threads in a square inch of fabric. Two hundred is typical and perfectly fine; 400 may provide a finer, softer sheet. Above 400, the only difference is likely to be price.

Our tests included some sheets listing thread counts of far more. The Linensource Regency Collection, $280 per queen set, claims a stunning 1,200.

Then we checked the math. Many sheet makers, including Linensource, count plies--very thin yarns that make up a thread. We hired an independent textile lab to count threads. The actual count: 416. That?s just 35 percent of what Linensource claims.

Bottom line: Pick a sheet between 200 and 400 thread count that meets your other criteria. Paying more for higher thread count is wasting money.

phaser,
Thanks, count me in! (Pun intended.)
Amazon is so easy to deal with that if these are anything less than as advertised, we'll just slit the sheet & ship the sheet back. :D:D:D
Ideal gift for my daughter-in-law as her BD is the 26th.
Wouldn't it have been a bummer to have a BD Christmas week?

I'm kind of a sheet snob as well. I typically get Pima or Egyptian cotton sheets in the 350-400 TC range. Sateen sheets are kinda yucky IMO. Another thing to look for is the actual size of the sheet, I like extra wide sheets so the wife isn't stealing everything from me. The depth of the pocket is another concern if you have a pillow-top mattress and use fitted sheets. Expect to spend $100 on sale for a nice set of sheets.

I have yet to find a sheet that my wife doesn't steal from me...I'd pay anything for that kind.

Where do you live?? You should be able to find a wife you can afford that won't steal your sheets...at least for a night.

Wow, they feel great, almost like silk, my wife is impressed.

Interesting, they dropped in price $5 to $54.99.
