~$1000 system

I need a system that can handle the latest games at 1920x1080 resolution.My budget is ~$1000 USD. I prefer Newegg.No brand preference.I plan on reusing my monitor,speakers,keyboard,and mouse. And I will overclock it.

I was thinking of saving money by going the AMD route, with the Phenom IIx4 955.Or should I spend more money and go with a i5 or i7 setup? I'm not sure.

For gaming all you need is AMD and a better video card. If you do much transcoding, encoding, etc then you should get at least an i5. i7's HT helps a lot if you want to shave time off of large file operations.

If AMD, then I would get either a 790 board, or the Asus M4A785TD-V EVO, or Gigabyte MA785GPMT-UD2H so you can run the IGP in crossfire with your PCIe card, or not, you have that option.

If i5/i7, then the P55A-UD6.

Mushkin Blackline, Noctua heatsink, Seasonic (Corsair uses them) PSU, ATi video card, Cooler Master case.

What CAS is that G.Skill RAM?

The 790G gives actually a little tiny bit less performance than the 785G, because the 785G is newer and supports DX10.1. Since you're a gamer that's something you probably want. I don't think the SB750 south bridge is any better than the one on the 785G boards, but I'm not sure.

Only thing is I would go for this while it's on FREE Shipping. It's normally a higher priced case, but after the money you save on shipping it's $3 more for a much nicer case. (that's after tax for me here in California)

The CAS for the Memory is 8. I picked it up because under description it said for "high performance and gaming".

I switched the Motherboard with the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO.I liked the HDMI and e-SATA.

And I switched out the cases for the one you recommended.What's the difference?Is the 140mm fan better?

Grand Total comes out to be 974.21 USD.(I live in CA too)

Cool. CAS 8 is good. I just ordered one of the ASUS boards, an Athlon II X4 620 and some Mushkin 2 x 2GB Blackline Frostbyte (996652). Amazon has a good deal on that RAM. $105 no tax in California... 🙂 All the cheap new RAM is for i5/i7 and doesn't work well with AM3.

The case - well, if it comes from the same company, then the more expensive one is always better in terms of features and quality. And free shipping always saves a lot of money on cases. If it was from a different company then the cheaper case could be better than the more expensive one. I like the look of the Storm Scout, but you may like the 690 more.... whatever. I haven't compared the designs so I'm just going by the rule of thumb I mentioned above. If the 690 could be sold for more then CM would price it higher, but it's less desirable.

I haven't bought the system yet, but can the video card handle the latest games on 1080p?It's 128-bits.

Find a way to get an HD 5850. Drop the sound card to pay for it. X-Fi is not worth it.
