1) PC will be mostly used for gaming
2) $1000 budget, NOT including videocard
3) Buying in the USA
4) No particular brand preference, but it will be a 2500k build
5) Display, GPU, mouse, and keyboard I already have, GPU is a Geforce GTX 460 768MB
6) I have read some similar builds to get an idea of what I want
7) Plan on OCing the 2500k
8) Currently 1680x1050 resolution, however budgeting to bump to a 1080p
9) Plan to build in 2-3 weeks (waiting to see what happens with 3rd gen SSDs), but will order ASAP if some parts are cheaper now
Here's what I'm looking at so far:
CPU & Cooler: 2500k and Hyper 212
Motherboard: This Gigabyte seems popular, but I'm not sure.
RAM: 8GB minimum, not sure what to get
SSD : I could probably make do with ~60GB, but 120GB is what I'd feel comfortable with
HDD : I need a minimum of 1TB. Reliability is the most important thing here, and the 2TB failure rates have me worried
Optical Drive : was planning to just grab whatever DVD burner when I order the rest
OS: windows 7
Case: Again not sure, was hoping to catch something on sale
PSU: 550-650W is what I think I'd need. I don't plan on ever using SLI or Crossfire, but I will be upgrading to a newer GPU later this year. I'll also probably add another HDD or two before my next upgrade
From what I have, it looks like I'll have between $300-400 for the PSU, case, and SSD. SSD is mostly what I'm waiting on, since I believe the rest of the 3rd gens should be launching soon.
I'm budgeting another $500 to upgrade my GPU and display later this year (Kepler?), currently using a GTX 460 768MB that I think will tide me over till then.
Any input is appreciated.
