Current build:

Intel i5 3570
700w PSU
8gb GSkill 1600mhz ram
ASrock extreme 3 motherboard
AMD Radeon 7850
1 Asus ve228h 21.5" monitor.
cooler master HAF 912 case
7200rpm 1tb hard drive and 1tb external

I've been leaning towards getting a new gpu and 2 more monitors however I am open to opinions

I did the multi-monitor thing for a while, with two 24" screens. I got tired of it though--desk space consumption and hassles--and traded up to a single 27" 1440p monitor, which I really prefer (even though I swore by dual monitors for a while). You might want to consider getting one of the $300 Korean 27-inchers and a nice video card like a 780 (!$650!) or a 7970 (for better price/performance but less overall muscle).

I really just want to upgrade my overall performance. I would like to becable to play most games that will be coming out this fall (and for the next while) on max. I wouldnt mind upgrading to a bigger monitor, I really just would like multiple opinions. Thanks. Written on my phone sry.

I would probably get a 120hz monitor instead of 1440p. Really depends on what kinds of games you play.

If 1440, I'd get a 7970 3GB instead of gtx770 2GB, or postpone upgrade until 9000 series

By the way, does this thread mean that you have $1000 to spend, or that you are attempting to upgrade a computer that originally cost you $1000?

Gtx780 and a 256gb samsung 840 series ssd would be what i would buy then i would put the extra $100 left over away and i would call such a build complete for 1080p.

Couple years down the road,go 1440p and go all new with a gtx980 and possible mainstream intel 6 core and 16gb ram.

I don't know where you are in Canada, but if you're in Calgary or any other place with a Memory Express, I would recommend going there and price beating every single component if possible to save yourself some money. I would then get a better GPU

I will now have $1200 (got paid) dollars to spend on upgrading my $1500 computer (including monitor) I live in Nova Scotia.

For a 27-inch monitor, I can't recommend Dell. I've been trying for six weeks to get a defect-free U2713HM. I've had three replacements so far, and they all have noticeable backlight bleed and at least one dead pixel. I got it at a good price originally ($539 +HST), but that is still too much to pay for a panel that isn't perfect. Dell's customer service has been good, but the longer my case continues, the more disorganized they seem to get. The monitor is gorgeous otherwise, which is why I haven't asked for a refund, and it always seems that a new revision that fixes the problem is right around the corner...

This is why I'd suggest trying one of the Korean ebay monitors instead. For a little over half the price ($280 +taxes/fees), it seems you have at least as good a chance of getting a pixel perfect monitor with low backlight bleed from them. Many people have received X-Star and Qnix panels from ebay that don't have the QC problems that I keep running into with a "premium" display from Dell. These X-stars and Qnix also overclock to 100+Hz most of the time. If I could start over again, I would go the Korean ebay monitor route.

Another option is the Asus PB278Q, which you can get locally in Staples and Futureshop stores for $599 IIRC. It also has QC problems, but if you buy from a physical store, you can always just return until you get a nice one.

Yeah I think I might try the 27" monitor setup. I will probobly buy the PB278Q. So now the only remaining question is do I get the 780 or the 7970 and can I run either with a 700w psu? Thanks for the input 😀.

I dunno, for max details, I'd probably want something more powerful for 1440p (As stupid as that may sound). I'd probably get the Next Gen Flag Ships on video cards.

If I'd upgrade to a single monitor, I'd probably consider a Korean Monitor, and then spend the rest on a Next Gen videocard.

Depends on what kind of PSU. If it's reasonable quality, then you can easily run any single GPU and many SLI/CFX setups with it.

For the GPU, I'd get the 7970 because it's about 2/3rds the price of a GTX 780. The GTX 780 is faster, but it blows your upgrade budget at $660 (+$680 monitor).
