Income tax is a good example of how gullible uneducated voters are easily swayed.

I have no problem with income taxes if two essential critera are met:

1. The taxes themselves are kept reasonable, with no attempt made to use them to control behavior or make judgements about who deserves what based on political whim, and not to be raised willy-nilly every time government spends far too much money.

2. The money raised is actually properly managed and spent wisely by a government that runs efficiently.

There's more than enough money to go around that would make the above criteria easy to meet and run a government that would actually be much more effective than what we have.

Instead, neither condition is met. And unfortunately, too much of the population is subservient and thinks of the government as their master, so they won't demand accountability from government, they simply bend over and scream "massa need mo money".

The income tax is unconstitutional. After the Civil War it was allowed to be like 2-6%. They needed it high during world war II, only problem is they forgot to lower it.

I don't mind paying high taxes if I get something cool in return. I like having police. I like having fire departments. I like roads that are fixed every year or two. I like how public transit greatly reduces traffic. I like how the city removes garbage for free since charging for garbage would encourage people to throw shit like car batteries in the ditch just to avoid paying $5 or whatever. What's all this other crap we end up paying for? War in some country nobody cares about? Bridge to nowhere? Gigantic union pensions that bankrupt cities and states? We have a Department of Homeland Security but we don't have protected borders. We're a joke among first world countries. We have the most expensive public schools in the world but we have some of the most retarded citizens. Our cities are so fucking dangerous that middle class people flee in terror. How are tax dollars managed so badly? Hong Kong has incredibly low taxes and minimal government, but the crime rate is extremely low. You can walk around in Hong Kong with little or no fear of being jacked. Try walking around Baltimore and see what happens.

If we're not getting much out of our taxes, I don't see much reason to be paying them.

Ahhhhh Libertarians.

They live in this magical world where infrastructure builds itself and private enterprise makes sure our food doesn't poison us.

I have no problem with income taxes if two essential critera are met:

1. The taxes are much higher on the rich. I think an effective rate of around 70% for incomes over 10 million is entirely appropriate.

2. The taxes are low for the middle class. I think an effective rate of around 10% for incomes under 200 thousand is appropriate.

That's how we got into our current mess. Half the country pays no income tax even though government accounts for 40% of GDP. When half the country pays no tax and half the country benefits from government waste, it's virtually impossible to vote against additional government spending.

Those would be Libertopians, rather than Libertarian. It is a wonderful world though, EPA superfund sites are just a liberal fantasy and things like Chinese baby formula debacle are caused by communism.

It is clear you do not understand Libertarians.

Infrastructure is well within the scope of the federal government.

However, if I want to sale yard eggs and raw milk to my neighbors, the government needs to stay out of my and my neighbors business.

If I want to sale baby chicks on the side of the road, I have to have a permit. Farm supply stores are required to have a permit to sale baby chicks and rabbits.

If I want to sale rabbits on the side of the road, I have to have a permit.

The whole thing about Libertarians is the government takes care of its business, I take care of my business, and the government leaves me alone.

This gives me an idea. How about food regulations do not apply to sales that are done face to face by the owner? That would allow people to set up small businesses and sell whatever the hell they want. Companies with employees would need to follow regulation, which would make them slightly more expensive than owner operated stores, but the big stores would have the assurance of food safety. If you want raw milk, you can buy it, but it might be risky. If I want FDA inspected food, I can go to the big store and get it. Everybody wins.
