The meaning of “Freedom of Speech” is one of those “rights” that changes depending on who’s doing the speaking…and who’s doing the listening.

It’s easy-peasy to defend it when what’s being said is something with which you agree…but not so easy when you absolutely hate what’s being said…and that’s exactly when we need to fight the hardest to defend the right to say it.

Everytime one of these stories pops up that old Rage lyric creeps into my head "You don't have to burn the books, just remove them".

Didn't really understanding the meaning back in my teen years, but thanks to Gov Desantis I get it now.

And to even take it a step further, you don't even need to remove them. If a handful of fearful shitters don't want their precious snowflakes reading a book then setup a parental flag required where parents can opt out of "sensitive" books and their kids can't check them out.

That's it. The the end. Move on.

Here we have the ignore button to save us from useless content. I discovered to my surprise and chagrin that once I had somehow put someone on it by accident.

Interesting that we hold in contempt those who would limit what we can read while we ourselves are the masters of limiting what we will expose ourselves to. Everywhere there are cans of worms. Tread lightly. Be careful. Cover your mouth when you yawn so the devil doesn’t get in. Beware the bewitchment of mirrors.

Great time to revive the quote.

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.

If people are too stupid to protect themselves against people who would manipulate them for power glory and wealth, is it the job of those not so stupid to protect them. Who is going to stop people in beginning before it is too late? How are the stupid to know who to trust? Who imagines themselves to be too stupid to know?
