This isn't a stellar deal, but if you are already buying a digicam and you're dizzy with all the % off deals, add one to the fray. You can get the EPson 785epx for under $200 everywhere, they are ebaying for near retail and you'd save a bundle. I know thi smight be a repost. I checked lightly, if it is ... relax.

A little misleading...

Not to flame, but to clarify:

* Qualifying digital camera manufacturers include:
- Casio
- Konica
- Minolta
- Olympus
- Ricoh
- Sanyo
- Epson
- Kyocera
- Nikon
- Pentax
- Toshiba
- Sony

Basically, the promotion is for buying a camera and printer that both are enabled with Epson's "PRINT Image Matching" technology.

I ordered this from Dell last Sunday for $154 before rebate, but unfortunately they just sent an email saying it would not be shipped until 12/27/2001. Hardly "In-Stock" as Dell advertises even today. They should be held accountable.

Thanks!!!!

Exactly what I've been looking for. Ordered it from Dell.com. It says in stock so hopefully they will deliver soon unlike the person Iceblue a few posts up mentioned. Just got my Minolta Dimage 5 and now need a printer for it. Not bad for $45.

as for Do i have to buy them from same vendor and in the same order? no where on the rebate coupon does it mention that so probably not. I got my cam from photoalley and the printer from dell.

hmmmm..... I wonder if one bought a real cheap digital camera from one of the qualifying manufacturers.... would they be able to qualify for the $100 rebate on the printer..... I wonder if it would be worth while?

Anyone else wonder?

I wonder because I just bought a Canon s110 that does not qualify for this great deal :(

I've been looking for the best deal on this awesome printer. This Dell deal will be great if it ever comes. By the way, can we use Amex Best Value Guarantee to get the deal even better? The lowest price from Pricewatch is at EMS Computing for $175. Can we get another $14.95 back?

Also, don't forget to use ebates for another couple of percent!

Comapred to the 1115 the epson gives you borderless prints in 4x6, 5x7, 8x10. As well as a 4x6 roll holder. "6 color ink vs 4 for the hp's
ink is a little bit cheap for the epson as well. The epson uses a pcmcia adaptaer for compact flash where as on the hp you can insert compact flash and smart media directly into the machine machine. Though epson does ofeer a smart card or memory stck adapetr when you by the printer.

Hope this helps

Does not it need original UPC bars (printer and camera) for $100 rebate?

Actually, you just copies of the UPCs for the camera and printer. Here are the T's and C's from the rebate form.

  1. <LI><FONT face=Arial size=2>Purchase the EPSON Stylus Photo 785EPX printer plus any digital camera from a qualifying manufacturer listed above between August 17, 2001 and December 31, 2001. Only one product rebate per coupon. Claims with incomplete information will not be honored.</FONT>
<LI><FONT face=Arial size=2>Complete this rebate form and attach a copy of the dated sales receipt/ packing slip for both the EPSON Stylus Photo 785EPX and digital camera products and the original or copy of UPC codes from the EPSON printer box and digital camera. Print the EPSON Stylus Photo 785EPX and eligible digital camera product serial numbers in the space provided.</FONT>
    <LI><FONT face=Arial size=2>Mail to:
<B>EPSON PRINT Image Matching $100 Rebate
    P.O. Box 14839
    Mascoutah, IL 62224-4839</B></FONT>
<LI><FONT face=Arial size=2>Claims must be postmarked no later than January 31, 2002 and received no later than February 15, 2002. Allow 6-8 weeks for delivery. Sorry, Epson cannot deliver to PO boxes. Please call 1-800-277-6187 if you have any questions regarding your rebate</FONT>

This is only a good deal if you need to buy a digital camera and a printer. A lot of people already have one. More likely you should look at it as getting $100 off the digital camera, not the printer.

FYI, PC World had mixed feelings about this printer. They gave it high marks as a strictly-photo printer, but had some less flattering comments about its other "features":

Epson's printer requires you to use a PC Card slot instead of slots to read camera cards directly, so you'll need a PC Card adapter to download photos. If you own cameras with more than one flash memory format, you'll have to fork over from $50 to $80 for a SmartMedia or Memory Stick adapter (CompactFlash adapters cost only about $10). Ink costs are high at 6.1 cents for a page of black and 14.3 cents for a page of color.

The 785EPX's control panel confused us. The buttons for moving around the menus don't match the hierarchy of menu items displayed on the LCD; some commands that should be in the menus have their own buttons (such as selecting the images to print or setting the brightness); and other buttons (for turning the printer on, changing the ink, and resuming a print job) are strewn around the printer's face. Finally, it prints text at a leisurely 2.4 ppm, and even then its text quality doesn't impress us, with choppy edges on large headline fonts and a slightly fuzzy look on body copy.

THe link to this mini-review is here. They ended up giving it 4 out of 5 stars so it can't be too bad...

I personally would like to know if the card slot on the printer simply directs photos into the printer, or if the PC can read from the card slot (like a standalone card reader). Anyone know?

<< yo bruin; can u scan up that 30$ rebate offer? >>

Here's the link to the rebate on the Epson web site: Epson/Lexar $30 rebate

Edit: Looks like you can't combine the $100 offer with digicam pruchase and this $30 rebate, since the fine print says,

<< <FONT size=1>Not valid with any other Epson ink jet offers or any other Lexar Media offer for a cash rebate. >>

Here's the link to the rebate on the Epson web site: Epson/Lexar $30 rebate
Looks like you can claim both the $100 printer (with digicam purchase) and the $30 memory card since the digicam rebate only requires a copy of the UPC while the Lexar rebate requires the original UPC.

Any idea if you can stack this $30 rebate w/ $15 rebate on lexar mem stick rebate? rebate link

Of course not...you're paying $145 (this week's hot tip: the place you're matching to has to have a lower price than what you are paying; not a higher price :Q ). You would have to find it for $135 or less to claim a valid pricematch.

I just got an E-mail from Dell saying that my 785EPX won't ship until Jan 2. I'm wondering what this will do to my chances for a rebate. Does anyone know what paperwork Dell sends with shipments ? Does it show order date or just shipment date ?
