i have sonic dvd-r's that are rated at 1x, they burn at 4x perfectly fine. I'd say most likely you'll get 4x out of these

*BEWARE* of the Sonic discs they have been known to be really crappy i got a 100 of them last time i bought from shop4tech and half if not 75% of all the ones ive burnt so far have died on me so please it may seem cheap but you get what you pay for believe me. A better deal is the 50pk ridata discs from newegg.com for 35$ shipped sure its 70$ for 100 but they are great discs and are 4X also and its from a decent site with a good price on a great product.

Here is a link to some reviews on the disks

They are working great for me.

Edit: Good idea gshock888 my burner is a NEC ND-1100A that I bought with my Dell. I have only burned 5 dvd's but no coasters yet.

i think before people say "this media suck" or "this media rocks" they should post what friggin writer they have. firmware too if possible

you cant just judge media by themselves, some burners are great with low-cost media such as these sonic (as i am having a almost 100% perfect burn rate with my sonic DVD-R from shop4tech, i have a Pioneer DVR107a with the hacked firmware 1.13 from nil), and some are not.

tell people what burner you have before you rail on the media. so people with similar burner can stay away while others can take their chances.

Yea that is the same link i bought them from the 2.4X ones. Maybe they got a bad batch of DVDRs that seems to happen alot to shop4tech. My DVR107 has stock firmware i will try hacked i only have about 20 left from the 100 i got. The ones i burnt with my 105 and 106 were the 2X -R Sonic discs that i bought from shop4tech like 6months ago tho those also had problems.

I purchased a 50pk of the Sonic and thus far I am not impressed. I typically burn with a Sony which has never produced a coaster with quality media but half of the Sonics so far have been duds while several successful burns hang depending on what player I'm using. My Gateway laptop is the worst while my Gateway desktop is fine. The Apex and PS2 are in the middle.

When I visually inspected my bulk discs the first 7 had significant surface flaws. My best guess is that only 2/3 of these discs are worth my time (and money).

I agree totally. I have a 100 pack of Sonic discs and they are not consistent quality. You really need to verify every burn. I've found that a 2X burn is considerably more reliable than a 4X burn using both a Pioneer and Lite-On burner. If a burn fails validation, I check the disk with Nero CD/DVD Speed's scan feature and sometines they are OK. no bad blocks, but most of the time they have 2 or 3 bad blocks. I give those movies to friends and relatives :D Most of the time they will play just fine in a DVD player but forget about ever making a successful copy of the disk.

Unless it doesn't bother you to lose some of your data, you need to verify every burn of every brand media. No manufacturer has a 0% defect rate.

I have a Pioneer 2x and Lite-on 411 4x burner. The Lite-on does better than the Pioneer with these media. Out of a 100-disc spindle, the first 20 or so were great. After that, even with a visual check of the media, I've gotten only 1 out of 20 to burn properly. Doesn't matter which burner, which PC, what speed of burn. With a 50% failure rate so far, I'd have been much better off just buying the G04's that were on sale at Shop4tech. They are almost 2x as expensive at the Sonic's, but just think of the savings in time and frustration.
