lol WTF does it cost without the discount?

its like 4.50 after student discount here

$13.50 i believe. This is at the best theater around here though - a huge AMC theater with large reclining seats, DLP projectors, etc

And really, IRON man? Where's Carbon-Nanofiber-Titanium-Superalloy Man?

Then don't eat and drink. Can't you go without popcorn and drinks for 2 hours?

Grudgingly went on Saturday (I hate going to the theater for an movie on opening weekend) -- walked away mostly impressed. I thought RDj was great, and Paltrow was awful (or just an awful role for her... I haven't decided).

Made of honor or Iron man. hmm tough choice. :p

EDIT: and it was good enough for top 10 on the list of largest opening 3 day weekends. I think Dark Knight will knock Iron man out of the top 10 though.

I think they said it was the second best opening for a non-sequel ever.

BoxOfficemojo.com

Looks like #3 if you believe their numbers.

I find The-Numbers.Com to be more accurate in the long run.

We will find out for sure once the totals are in and we are no longer going off of estimates. :)

i like boxofficemojo for the foreign box office break down.
seems it hasn't opened in the uk yet.

To take myself, my son, and his friend to a matinée was $22.

Anyways, I will say that Iron Man is a huge step-up from previous Marvel superhero efforts. After the giant balls of poop that were Ghost Rider, X-Men 3, Daredevil, Fantastic Four 1 & 2, etc...Marvel did the right thing in taking back their property and controlling the movie rights if they can keep up this level of quality. That was damn cool.

But I agree with you waggy, this movie seems like it will be worth it. I only go see action movies in the theater now - the ones where you need the big screen and theater surround sound.

$7.50 for student at the MJR near me, forget what it is at the AMC/Star.

The AMC/Star has $6 tickets Mon-Thurs all day.

Edit: Also, this movie was great.

I don't understand why anyone gives a shit when a movie breaks an earnings record. It is completely meaningless because of inflation and the ever increasing rise in ticket prices. Why don't they just report number of tickets sold? I guess because there wouldn't be any hype for that.

Haha, not bitter I just wish there were more original movies being made opposed to these regurgitated superhero stories or drawn-out sequels/prequels based on superhero stories. I mean, now they want to make an X-Men movie based just on Wolverine's past? I love the character but come on.. even Dark Knight doesn't interest me, I've seen dozens of Batman movies by dozens of Batmans, I've even seen The Joker before in one of them, why do I need to see him again? It's just.. ugh, where's the originality?

Can't even do that, we've got population inflation to take into account as well :Q

It isn't difficult to figure out roughly what the attendance was, you divide the gross by the current average domestic ticket price.

It is important for the studio since they paid for the production/prints+advertising in current dollars. As most studios are or are owned by publicly traded companies you might imagine how this is important to them when they do well. Film rental, gross participation agreements, and a host of other deals (potentially worth hundreds of millions) hinge on the dollar figure.

there are countless movies made each year not based on sequels or prequels:p no unknown superhero movies sure, but thats a given considering the investment.

people complain too much. wasn't that long ago such a movie wouldn't be feasibly possible.

Yep. Start complaining when they come out with the Ant-Man movie. :p There's still alot of heavy hitters in the Super Hero realm that haven't been touched in movie form.

Seeing Sam L. Jackson decked out as Col. Fury at the end of Iron Man and bringing up the "Avenger Initiative" sent geek chills down by spine.

Iron Man impressed me as just being a good movie. It is a very entertaining watch. Some super hero movies are not so great, even if they capture the hero well, but this movie nailed everything.

Could that be considered a spoiler for those of us who haven't seen it yet? Personally I'd have liked to have been surprised by that.

Depends on if you're someone who generally stays through the credits.

Iron Man was an overall good movie and the best superhero movie of the last 10 years, and probably ever. Better that Batman, Spiderman, Batman Begins, and pretty much anything else I can think of.

What I find amazing is that GTA4 had an opening week north of $400m.

Hard to believe, but the video game industry has equaled, if not surpassed Hollywood in terms of opening week/weekend hoopla.

Don't forget though, on average 1 video game = 5 movie tickets ($50 game/$10 ticket). Makes it easier for them to hit higher dollar amounts with close to or equal number of customers/units/etc.

GTA IV was $60.
