I was thinking it could be a really interesting project to just demolish most of the city and turn it into some kind of new national park. Leave some of the infrastructure in place so that people who go hiking in there 50 years from now would have the most surreal nature/urban/apocalyptic experience ever.

I've long since wondered why disaster and action movies CGI building destruction. I say give them a neighborhood or two and let them go nuts

Hrm, I question that PDF from the state because my tax rate is listed at 33 but I am paying 19 currently, according to my city's tax records.

Odd. Both my current city and the city I'm moving to are correct.

There has actually been an upswing in urban farming going on in Detroit. At least some people are making good use of the vacant land.

So these auctions list the debt. I'm looking at where I used to live and there's a house with a starting bid of $300K but with a listed debt over $1M. Zillow values the home at $500K. What's the deal?

The last time the home sold was in 1993 for $300K so these owners must have refinanced and ruined their lives lol.

Or added on to the house in a major way. When I was home shopping nearly 3 years ago, I cannot tell you how many foreclosed/short sale homes met this description. New loan taken out for home improvement that was never completed. I saw semi finished basements, kitchens, expansions/add-ons, a home that was close to gutted with nothing left inside but a toilet, floor projects that were half complete and the house that had the super awesome huges garage with a work area above it and a porch that was literally going to fall off teh house and a flooded basement. Then there were the homes that didn't start major repairs but were evident that they were needed. Roofs, wet basements, water damaged ceilings and walls, garages that were rotted, heat (steam) that didn't work on the second floor. We looked at many, many houses.

or just kick everyone out of there. then let everything grow back. animals would use the houses for shelter and eventually trees would grow into the houses and the grass would be very tall and more. a mixture of urban and forests and grasslands
