First allow me to state my system specs.

Athlon Xp 1900--Cpu
Epox 8kha+ --Mobo
1 GiG ---Corsair Xms 2700 Ram
80 Gig -Maxtor 7200 rpm drive
Radeon 9600xt--Vid Card
Sound Blaster Live -- Sound Card
Cable Connection
Antec 400 Watt -- Power Supply

Software
Windows Xp
Latest drivers from Microsoft
Latest 4in1 Drivers
Latest Sound Drivers
Latest Direct X
Latest Ati Vid Drivers

This is my gaming machine which I use to play numerous games, ie. quake, counterstrike, warcraft, asherons call 2, worms world party (gotta love that game)

My problem is with any other game other than asherons call 2 (turbine engine), my computer runs perfectly/flawlessely.
When I play asherons call 2 (mmorpg) my cpu status while checking task manager, performace tab is at 100% while im playing the game, and while im alt-tabed out at 30%. I am not computer ignorant, I have been working with computers for a while now. I have been having this problem with this game forever, and im growing quite sick of dying because of computer problems/lag. I have asked numerous amounts of people in-game to check their cpu status and everyone but myself is running cpu at and below 40%. I am assuming there is a hardware issue here. I have the latest drivers for everything, flashed the bios, put bios at optimal settings, etc. etc. Checked epox's site for compatabilty problems, issues and whatnot, nothing needs to be changed in registry and all that is dandy. I have switched out sticks of ram, switched video cards, even went as far as putting another hd in and installing windows on that. I have no programs running in the background, nothing sucking up cpu cycles but ac2.exe and that is at 90-100%. What the #@$ is going on? Can anyone shine some light on this ever so nerve wrecking problem? Posting on message boards all over the internet is my last resort before I go and build another computer (definatly a pentium). I am hopeing that someone else has ran accross this issue, maybe even someone with same mobo or hardware setup. Any help/information is much appreciated to help me resolve this issue. Thank you. Joe

Ps. I also tried with another drive with win 2k on it thinking maybe it was another xp bug.

This doesn't sound like a hardware issue at all. Never played that game, but would imagine it has settings you can change and mess with. Try different resolutions, color depth, etc.

I'm confused. Most games will peg your CPU while they're running -- do you want to limit its CPU usage or something?

asherons call 2 (mmorpg)

takes massive amounts of processing too, if your having lag issues it's either time to upgrade your processor, or time to upgrade your i-net connection.

most of my games peg my cpu usage, with no lag. (except certain bf1942 servers that have too many players for the servers avail. bandwidth of cource ;))

Disable the CTHELPER service (for your SBLive) if you haven't already done so.
HUGE resource hog.

I have noticed that program hurt many different programs. I have seen it cause WinDVD to lock up or stutter.

So you're upset because the program is using the maximum processing time available to it instead of limiting itself and running even crappier?

You might wanna rethink that statement there, champ.

Same thing happens when I play DAoC, MMORPGs tend to eat quite a bit of cpu, but still runs fine even if i have 2 accounts running.

It sounds like your computer is running flawlessly when you play Asherons Call 2 as well. If you think it's a "problem" or "flaw" that a game uses 100% of your CPU, then the "problem" is not with the game or computer or OS, but with the "component" between the computer and desk chair... Many games and applications use 100% of your CPU. And why shouldn't they? The CPU is there to be used.

That`s find until you have my problem, launch Steam but don`t play and see my CPU go to 100% while I`m only surfing the net, close Steam & problem is gone, yet another many of the

But yes normally in gaming it should be near 100% or so.

The solution is to replace that 1900XP Proc w/ a barton proc. I think the 2500's are <$100 now. Or try OCing your 1900 to the max, it wouldn't be too big a loss if you go too far w/ it.
