never seen this type of deal. no rebate, no nuttin'. this has gotta be a pretty hot deal. CMTTrading.com is a good outfit, but they generally get bagged for slow shipment. they have a local shop in San Jose i think. everything on their site is a sweet deal but you gotta cross your fingers if you want quick shipping. probably best to call them up make sure it's in stock, and ask when/how it will be shipped.

anyways here it is:

pretty sweet price? hot or not?

Wow I had no idea that DVD-Rs had gotten so cheap. I was still thinking that they were like $7 bucks each or something.

That depends. THe CD-Recordable one have been known to be of poor quality. They will not work in Home Video DVD-R systems. I think the ones for $2.15 from compgeeks are about the best deal right now.

Yup, the cheaper stuff doesnt work, better off to pay 3$ for a 2X certified DVD-R

I'm comparing them to the generic DVD-R's he priced out. Keep in mind that I was not comparing them to higher quality DVD-R's. Also, I've bought generic b4 without problems.....

I have made over 50 DVDs with blanks from cd-recordable.com and they all work fine in every set-top player I have tried them in.

So, which of the 3 recordable DVD set top devices are you referring to?

The DVD-Rs from CD-Recordable.com sucks badly. They are extremely poor quality. Non of them played thoroughly on the entire length of each movie without glitches and or pauses. I have tested (watched the entire movie) the DVDs on my Pioneer DV-S10A (Japanese model ONLY, small brother of the ~$5000, DV-AX10) and the Sony DVP-S9000ES (GOLD, code-free Hong Kong model).

Before buying a large quality of DVD-Rs, buy a couple of each brand to try out how well they do on your home DVD Player. Some might play well, some might not. It all depends on your home DVD player.

I have found that the blood-red dye DVD-R works pretty well with my players. So far i have found no glitches and pauses with these discs. Here are some brand that is good, but you dont have to agree with me. Princo, Ritek, PrimeDisc and 2 generic brands are pretty good without problems. Please note, the players i have (might not make a difference) are $1500 and $1050, respectively.

The cheapest DVD-R i found goes for $1.29, $1.35, $1.38, $1.59. DVD-RW are $1.59, $1.89 and $3.99 (Free ship).

Link - Generic - $159.99/100 discs w/ free shipping ($1.60) or PrimeDisc - $169.88/100 discs w/ free shipping ($1.70)

Link - USDM Brand DVD-R $130.50/90 discs ($1.45each)

http://www.meritline.com
Link - Meritline - $177.00/100 discs + 100 cases ($1.38)

http://www.blank-cd-cdr.com/
Link - Princo - $33.75/25 discs ($1.39 each)

http://www.atdiscount.com/
Link - Princo - $125.10/90 discs ($1.39 each)

Again, please take this as an advice, buy a couple before going for that large quality. Each DVD-R media or brand might depend on your Home DVD player.

I was referring to players, not set-top recorders. I have played the discs in a Denon 4800, Panasonic RP91 & RP56, and a JVC model. All recorded with Gear Pro DVD v6. I ordered a large (500) batch of DVDs from cd-recordable.com, when they first started selling them. Maybe I got some that are higher quality ones than they sell now. I'm not sure, but the ones I have play flawlessly.

I was ONLY ever referring to set-top recorders. They damn things aren't worth sh!t if you cannot record to them... (still referring to set-top recorders)

I did say DVD-R, not DVD-ROM

thescram: can you describe what your batch of dvd-r's look like? i ordered a batch of 100 from cd-recordable.com also recently, and would like to know if maybe yours looks different from mine. the top is a pattern of small white specs covering the surface, while the bottom is purplish.

Both of you stop duking it out with each other. I have ordered DVD-R medias from CD-Recordable.com a couple of times, 100 discs per order in the past and the near past. The discs are all the same, past and present, light purplish color dye with a scratch-resistant, metalic-like (pattern of small white spec) color on top.

They were the cheapest at the time, about $3.59 each (Oct.2001) to $1.99 (Mar.2002). At first, i thought that my players (at that time, Sony DVP-S7700 and Pioneer DV-737 (US Pioneer Elite DV-37), both Gold, Hong Kong model, region-free) were not DVD-R compatible. It turns out that it wasnt the players (after 4 players) or the DVD-R authorings. It was the damn medias that caused the glitches and pauses.

The best generic DVD-R media i 'm currently using has a gold shinny top (like those OLD cheap, shinny, easy-to-scratch, silver-top CompUSA CD-R) with a bloody-red dye. They are about $1.59 each. Price has gone up, $1.79 since i got a batch of a 100 last month.

Wow, $25 for a recordable DVD. That reminds me of when they just came out for $40 each, then dropped to $25 immediately.

What are you talking about, $25 for DVD-R? DVD-R are down to $1.29 each. Read carefully.

from my experience, cd-recordable.com media was good in the first batch i ordered (it was a while back, the discs were well over $3, that much i remember), then later orders yielded crappier media. finally i returned them three or four months ago and they never refunded me (currently dealing with amex and disputing the charge since calling them got me an answering machine mostly and emailing them yielded no results)...

i have heard though that princo media was pretty good from others (played flawlessly even in a PS2), so i'll try that out eventually...
