...and my launch console still works, along with the slim version i bought when it came out! :awe:

Kudos to Sony for 146m units sold😱

Quality stuff eh?

Yeah I worked for EB Games back in the day and always got broken PS2's in ("it worked fine at home!"). Still, I saw fewer of those than I would see RROD's I bet...

And they're still selling them. Sony is putting out another PS2 bundle. It's not unheard of but past gen consoles usually don't last a decade in first tier markets.

I was angry at Sony because they are responsible for SEGA's demise. I vowed never to buy another console when the PSX came out and SEGA died, and I kept this promise up till now when it finally became clear that SEGA is probably not going to come out with another console... EVER. I sure hope I am wrong off course.

Anyway, it is funny how Sony is experiencing the same crysis Sega had back in the day. Just like Sega was technologically superior to Sony with it's Saturn and Dreamcast, PS3 is now technologically and aesthetically superior to the Xbox 360. This, however, doesnt matter, because the Xbox has more games, is generally cheaper, games are better coded for it (which shows in better gfx for the 360 despite the fact that the PS3 can theoretically display gfx just as good if not better), and can be hacked with relative ease. We may frown upon piracy, but let's not ignore the fact that the ease of hacking may very well influence someone's buying decision more often than not.

I had a 360 in the past for a short while(planning to get it again) and now I have a PS3. I was absolutely surprised just how much better made the PS3 is. It may have many disadvantages compared to the 360, but the fact that it is a much better made machine is undeniable. Everything about the PS3 screams HIGH QUALITY. I am talking about the original fat PS3 off course. To me the PS3 is like a Mercedes Benz S55 and the Xbox is something of a Toyota Camry. Sure it may have "breaking system" issues, but it sure as hell sells more units and much more accessible to more people.

That's funny, I never had issues with my 360. I know that there is issues with the launch ones, but at least MS ended up standing behind them. I went through 3 PS2's, all of them just stopped reading disks. I owned a PS3 for awhile, but just never used it and sold it.

Not trying to start a flamewar but it took MS a while before they admitted to the RRoD and did something about it but I love both systems.

I didn't care much for the PS2 library with the exceptions of some games (MGS, GoW, some others). However, the PS3 library is looking pretty nice so I'll probably pick up both PS3 and 360 when their motion controller bundles come down to $300

That's funny, I never had an issue with my PS2. Wait, except when I dropped it off a table and it stopped working and Sony fixed it for free out of warranty.

MS stood behind their shit AFTER it caused an outrage, and it took them how many times to get it right (that is if these new slims don't have problems)?

Not gonna start a console war, I just know that if you RR you get it fixed. They don't have an extended warranty for PS3's. And as I said, I had a lot of issues with the PS2, having three systems because my system wouldn't read disks. I loved my PS2, it's what turned me into a hardcore gamer, I was just stating my issues with the system.

I haven't had any real issues with my PS2. And I've only had one problem with an Xbox360.

I have so many PS2 games... Oh how I loved that system.

no issues with my ps2, but my psx refused to play games unless it was upside down, lol.
but then again, at the point it was 10 years old and had thousands of hours on it.

There should be a new rule in this forum that we can only talk about software. Not even cross platform software.
People can't control themselves.

The PS2 was truly awesome. There were some truly EPIC games on that console.

Some of my fondest memories surround Friday nights gone by, playing Timesplitters over many beers with my best mate, who was always difficult to beat.

Yeah, the whole "disc read error" fiasco. I have a launch PS2 as well, but always was a bit "pokey" with reading a couple games. Just wouldn't do it. Had a number of friends who had the read error and had to get the system replaced by Sony. Sony supported it OK, but you had to say just the right things to get it replaced under warranty.

That said, the PS2 was very groundbreaking. It was my first DVD player, and was the first time I ever used a connection better than S-viedo (RGB component). I split my time between the PS2 and the Xbox (HD FTW) and loved both of those systems. The PS3 and 360 are great, but both really feel like evolutions and less revolutionary than their predecessors.

I dont feel a need to get a 360, I can get all the games I want to play on my computer, PS3 and Wii.

I still have my PS2 and it works just fine. This was their best console to date.

i threw away my PS2 like 6 months ago when the local school was doing an electronic junk drive, got rid of 2 orig xboxes as well as a bunch of old computer junk

as for the PS3 and the 360, i have both and like both, only bad things i have to say about them is the 360 is loud and the PS3s rounded shape pisses me off because you cant rest anything on top of it without it sliding off

Yeah, disk read issues aside, I loved my PS2. Like I have said, it was the system that turned me into a hardcore gamer. I still think about getting a PS3, just had my reasons to not get it when it first came out and just haven't seen a reason to get it yet. My family doesn't have time to watch movies, so a Blu-Ray player wouldn't do me any good and all of my real life friends own 360's, so I wouldn't have anyone to play the PS3 with. Still, I am sure I will eventually pick one up. I have been reading a lot about Killzone 3 and Resistance 3, and they both look like pretty cool games.
