asian parents have so much expectations for his son. that's so abusive.

i'm korean and i felt pressured by parents to excel in education. i'm not a typical asian student, thank you very much.

Heh, I think I know a couple people in real life that probably could've scored a full 800 on the math section of the SAT when they were 10...

lol...i was thinking the exact same thing when i saw the title

Bingo. The math section of the SAT is incredibly easy.

The verbal isn't that hard either.

What were your scores?

man i sucked @ standardized testing format. In practice, i'd always high 700's, and even once, an 800... but come testing time, i think pressure from my lame teen brain affected me, since i only got 1300something (720 math, and some low verbal score of 500something lol)... (before the essay section came into play). Oh man I sucked @ verbal, lol.

in SAT II writing, i remember i had something like 20 percentile hahaha.

well, as you can see from my horrid grammer of my posts, it shows :p.

a few replies, said, 'yea i know someone, that knows someone that can do it'

or

'yea i can do it if i studied'
'i got close to 800'
'it's easy, not that hard'

blah blah, anyone actually got a 800 ?? when they were 10?

Scoring a perfect on a standardized test for High Schoolers at 10 years old is impressive.

It doesn't matter for college much anyways. There is this one Asian (Of Course) girl in my IB classes. She has a 4.0GPA (No weight at our school), 2400 SAT's, 800's on all subjects, and she is going for IB Diploma. She applied to all the good schools. Surprise surprise she got rejected from MIT. These days numbers only go so far.

Too bad she isn't a different race, she could go anywhere she wanted then.

She should have listed a race other than Asian. What are they going to do if they find out she's asian? Kick her out?

Is it a requirement to list your race or do they just assume that from your last name? If I remember correctly, here in Canada it's illegal to require that information.

I took it in sixth grade, it may have been seventh. So that would make me 12 or 13. It was through some sort of program to identify some of the brightest kids in Chicago, and they picked who would take it by their scores on the Iowa or the Illinois basic skills test.
I got like 620 math and 720 verbal, this was before they re-centered the scores to jack everyone's score up. I went to an award ceremony where they gave trophies to everyone who scored higher than 90% of graduating high schoolers.

What I remember most about that ceremony is that it was the first time I was propositioned for sex by a girl. This little girl around my age asked me if I wanted to go in an empty room and "do it". I just sort of looked at her stupidly until she left. Anyway, back to the test. It's not that big of a deal to get a high SAT score at a young age. I spent years of my early life in the library, so at 6th grade I was regularly reading adult level books. I think it says more about the average person who takes the test than it says about the kid. You won't find many high schoolers who read novels on their own time. It really is sad.

I got a perfect score when I was 12.

clickynext: I believe the "choose your race" option is optional.

Scoring a perfect on a standardized test for High Schoolers at 10 years old is impressive.

If it did it purely on his own, that's very impressive, but most likely his parents have been training him. I think that it's very possible for a child that young to know and understand algebra 2 and trig, provided he's been taught them. Children are quite good at learning, and our school system does a disservice to them by assuming they can't handle more than they're given. Just because most adults would struggle through algebra doesn't mean that a kid couldn't understand it.

This kid will probably end up being just a math professor though.

I took the SAT in 7th grade and got an 1100, I believe I had a high score on the verbal section (reading internet forums must have given me the ability to decipher poorly written information) but my math score was a bit low. Not too surprising though, I was only part way through algebra 1 if anything.

I scored a 720 in 7th or 8th grade...I forgot which. If it weren't for stupid mistakes, I would have had a perfect score.

Of all the things I've heard the SAT verbal section accused of, poorly written is not one of them.

I know asians have the stereotype of only being good at math, but for the record I am a south asian (Indian) and I scored the same in both verbal and math. (650).

And for those who mention that they got two wrong and got like a 750, I don't think thats possible b/c you can get two wrong and still have a 800 if i remember correctly. A perfect score is 800, but it does not mean you have all right answers, there is a small margin for error. Remember that part of the test is experimental.
