I'm not aware that comcast uses proxies. I thought that's something AOL would do?

Anyway, I booted into windows on a computer upstairs, and it had the same problem.

Those IPs are only pingable for Comcast IPs. Those IPs are actually CMTS (Cable modem termination systems). You are pinging other Comcast customers' nodes.
