I once knew a Malaysian airline flight attendant, and let me tell you, those ten so called ”secrets” are nothing.

$18k? What am I missing? No way the free tickets are worth doing that job for $18k.

That's during the probationary period. I know someone who does this, not sure who much she makes but I'd imagine it is above $40k, a modest living. But she can fly to Europe for like $50 round trip.

And yea Asian airlines are much better because they aren't afraid to discriminate in their hires.

FWIW ... I once met a very nice San Fran-based Delta attendant who openly told me that she had to hold down 6 jobs (yes, 6) to survive. Sure, San Fran is expensive but her hovel seemed overly expensive.

BTW ... flight attendants (both male and female) get paid based upon FLIGHT HOURS ... not the hours they actually work.

Today, being an attendant really sucks. The "glory" days of commercial aviation are long gone. Only the wealthy (or those with a high level of status) can afford even close to that level of luxury today.

That's not true at all. In the "glory" days, flying was expensive for everyone if you adjust for today's dollars. The big thing that's changed between then and now is that economy travel exists at a lower price point. The only thing that kind of sucks now is domestic two cabin first. It's basically a bigger seat at 3x the price.

And you don't need to be wealthy or have status to do it well. The credit card companies are doing a nice job with bonus offers that can have you doing the same every now and again. Read up on US Airways' award chart in first or business and then the routing rules. You can go on a really nice trip and see a bunch of places for 190k miles. If you get creative, you can get there on credit card offers in a year.

Yeah, F in SQ still costs 18k round trip, but even that's available with award space now.

Before deregulation competition was limited on the popular routes so the airlines could make enough to pay for the less popular routes. Now they don't have to fly where it's not profitable unless the government subsidizes the flights through the essential air service program.

I don't know if there is official policy of females under 135lbs, males under 180 lbs, for flight attendants. It seems like that is the case anyways as far as all my flights are concerned.
