<< Your answers were jokes.... right? >>

If I were a betting man I would say most of the questions are jokes. What does DNS stand for? Give me a break that one is too f*cking easy :)

I think those are valid questions for a prospective employer to ask an applicant. It's crazy the number of majorly inflated resume's I see or people who are totally clueless during an interview even though they claim to be MCSE, etc.

Sorry, thats not what I meant. I meant that some of those questions are horribly easy and the poster should know the answers. He is obviously a regular here and I didnt think someone who sat around here enough could STOP themselves from learning even the simple stuff :)

these questions are for real and I havn't used any of my skills since school 3 years ago and no I am not an mcse and no this isn't for that kind of job... just a help desk kind of job...I could have answered them 3 years ago but like I said I havn't used those particular skills since school
instead of following "computers" I found it much more lucrative to stay w/ my 20 years of electronics repair experience rather than starting all over @ the bottom in the computer area... this is why I couldn't "remember" the "simple" questions

6 a? Dont use MS products
7 a
8 d
9 c
10 b

I'll answer the ones I know for certain:

How many usable IP addresses will a 255.255.255.192 (/26 CIDR) subnet give you?
a. 64
b. 61
c. 63
d. 62

2^6 = 64. subtract broadcast and network addresses -> 62

What is the IP address of the local loopback of a NIC?
a. 10.10.10.255
b. 100.100.100.1
c. 127.0.0.1

127.0.0.1

Which of the following protocols are more efficient for a small LAN of 5-20 workstations?
a. IPX/SPX
b. NetBEUI
c. TCP/IP
d. Banyan Vines

IMHO, this is a matter of opinion. Personally, I would choose TCP/IP although I suspect the "correct" answer is NetBEUI or IPX/SPX. It certainly wouldn't be Banyan Vines.

What is the name of the NT service that controls modem access to and from an NT machine?
a. RAS ? Remote Access Service
b. RayServer
c. NMS ? Network Modem Service
d. PC Anywhere

RAS

A network host can have it's IP configuration automatically assigned upon boot using what protocol?
a. TCP/IP
b. FTP
c. HTTP
d. DHCP

DHCP: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.

a. Domain Network System ? Operates above the TCP/IP layer to send packets to the server
b. Dynamic Network Service ? Automatically configures NIC?s and assigns IP addresses
c. Domain Name Service ? Resolves names to IP addresses and vice versa
d. Dynamic Name System ? Changes the IP addresses randomly and configures a firewall

Domain Name Service

What is the command line command to show the IP configuration of an NT workstation or server?
a. FTP Status
b. IPCONFIG
c. TRACEIP
d. DISPLAY

ipconfig. switches would include /all, /release, and /renew
