CompUSA B&M has the Tracfone Nokia 252 analog pre-paid cell phone for $9.88. They've also got the 100 minute card for $9.88 (10c/min) and the 260 minute card for $19.88 (7.7c/min). If you don't use a lot of airtime, this is an awesome deal, as there's no monthly fee, no contract, and no requirement other than the need to add minutes every 60 days. (So if you buy a bunch of cards, don't activate them all at once.)

They are not sold at compusa.com! This is B&M only. The links are for SKU, pricing, and local availability information. Don't be an idiot and complain that they're out of stock online.

According to Tracfone's web site there's also a $30 rebate on the phone, but I couldn't find a link for the form anywhere. If the rebate goes through, you make $20 for taking the phone off of CompUSA's hands!

It seems from browsing some sites where Tracfone is sold that you need a coupon that should be in the box with the phone in order to get the $30 rebate.

The advice of another person to watch out for ANALOG phones seems right on. There are some horror stores about Tracfone Problems that people might want to read about before deciding to get into this deal even though it may be a near zero cost trial.

Be aware that the Nokia 252 phones do not work in many areas despite what the website says. The 252 is an analog phone and would not work in the area I was sending it for use(Miami) Only the digital Nokia 5165 will work in most areas now. You might want to call Tracfone before buying the Nokia 252 to make sure it will work in your area.

Some misunderstandng from JClark: The cards have to be used within a certain amount of time or you will lose the units left on the card, the expiration time depends on the card you buy, it is generally 30 days for 30 minutes. Most of the higher unit cards are ninety days. Part of this deal is old: The 260 unit cards have been posted before and will be hard to find, the 100 unit cards may be easier to find and you may be able to PM either Staples, OM, Best Buy if your carries them or even OD. Most of the competitors are selling the 100 unit card for either $49.95 or $99.95.....Good Luck.
The rebate says you must stay active for 60 days....Staples had the rebate link on their website....I may still have the form....I will post a link to it if I do. Bottom line.....you make maybe a couple bucks.

when I activated my 260 minute card I actually ended up getting a bonus 40 minutes for a total of 300 minutes- nice deal. I think these cards are good for 60 days of service thank jz

:| Damn I went to the Santa Clara store after checking that it's in stock there. But there wasn't anything around. I asked around but nothing. Then one of the clerk kept on saying they ran out of it. Guess why? He probably hog all of them to himself. Made me drove there for nothing.

<< has ANYONE had a moderate to good experience with a trackphone? >>

I bought one for my grandmother to keep in her car and use for emergencies. She has not had any problems with it. Since it was free after rebate I also got one. I have yet to use it since I already have a cell phone (through Verizon). I have kept it with me to see what kind of reception it gets and I'm happy to say it at least gets a signal everywhere I've tried. My "home" area is pretty good, I can use it at home in Harford County MD and at my Uncle's in Alexandria VA. (though at home I have to force it to "home only" or it will try to roam)

If you can use it in your area and don't need to use it much, it's a good deal. Otherwise you may want a digital phone from a different provider.

I was going to get the phone -- my store actually has it in stock, but after reading a few posts in the link, I think I'll stay away from this one...

I've had my Nokia 252 Tracfone for about 9 months and never had any problems with it, but then again I live in North Dakota where you can still sign up for an analog calling plan.

The only time you lose units of time is if you fail to activate another card within 4 months of your last card expiring.

So, if you activate a 30 minute card on 1/1/02, you don't need to activate another card until 1) you run out of minutes, 2) 3/1/02. If you decide not to activate on 3/1/02, you have until 6/30/02 to activate or on 7/1/02 you will lose your minutes.

The above isn't exact as Tracfone goes based on # of days, not # of months (so I translated 30 days = 1 month even though this isn't always the case).

From Tracfone's site:

Q: If my service is deactivated, will I lose my airtime units?

A: The units remaining on your phone will carry over if your service remains active or if service is reactivated within 120 days from the date your TracFone becomes deactivated. Unused units will expire if you wait longer than 120 days from deactivation to reactivate your TracFone.

dvdapex - Thanks for correcting my words........You might get Staples to PM by using CompUSA's website to check stock, the online inventory is not correct, it will say in stock in many stores, but not actually be there, and getting thru to CompUSA on the phone is a nightmare.....good luck!
