10" or less notebooks..

I have followed the EEE's for a while, but it looks like they jumped price pretty quick...

The Acer Aspire One looks great, but lacks battery life...

My question is, can I pick up extended batteries for the AAO? Do they last a lot longer?

Are the dual core atoms worth waiting for?

Are there other laptops that I am overlooking, besides the MSI Wind?

I want to stay within 300-400 for a nice super portable laptop...

They recently introduced a 6-cell that's supposed to have 5+ hour battery life. You can actually get an Aspire One with the 6-cell, along with Windows XP, 1GB RAM, and a 160GB HDD for $400. Pretty awesome deal considering the 6-cell by itself is about $100. 🙂

links?

How is the HDD VS SSD? besides obvious performance changes? Does it consume more battery power?

Any benchmarks online I can read about that specific model?

The Eee 1000h is being sold at $450 from at least amazon and mwave. Not sure if this is in your range for jumping price.

If you have a local store that sells them, you might want to take a look at the keyboard size. I don't know if they were talking about the 7" ones or the 9" ones, but I've heard the keyboard is significantly smaller than the keyboard for the 10" netbooks.

I think I might invest into an Asus EEE PC 1000h. I think I'll wait for Intel's SSD to come out before upgrading the HDD though.

Yep. I would look no further. In fact I'm thinking about actually getting one myself.

I put an order in for one myself, Ubuntu with a 8 gig SSD. The Aspire One might give you more for the money, but I like the though of a SSD over the HDD. The thought of no moving parts appeals to me. Plus the review makes it sound like it's built very solid. Also didn't like weird mouse buttons on the Acer.

Now Dell just needs to release some reasonably priced 6-9 cell batteries and I'll be set.

fanless is nice as well...my only issue is the battery life seems grim compared to the EEE, or Acer Aspire One.

The big contenders in the 300-450$ mark seem to be

AAO
EEE
Dell's mini 9

I do plan to use this to travel, heavily with...so the fact it is small is a huge plus, but battery life is pretty key.

I am kind of 'stuck' between them, especially all of EEE's models... not sure which is right for me...also, when the new stuff comes out, should I wait until then? I can wait to purchase until early December.

My wife really wants the dell mini, but the 8-16gb HD just won't be enough for all her pics. She doesn't like the mouse buttons on the acer, and the Lenovo is yet to be available.

Looks like her only option is the wind with its real HD...

oh a $450 160GB eeePC 1000h. Speaking of which, every single 10'' netbook has the same exact price, specs, and chipset, except some manufacturers swap out the larger HD for a smaller SSD, but that can easily be swaped around by you as well. you can't really go wrong with any of them. I would personally get the 1000h if you want ease of upgradability. Wind is slightly smaller, and the Lenovo looks a bit less candy'ish and more like a dell notebook.

the dell only has a 4 cell battery..... but is the perfect size IMO for this market. the 10" ones feel too close to full sized laptops (and thus have a much better keyboard, but the acer keyboard is decent... i'll have a dell to test in a few weeks when it ships)

Got my Mini 9 today; I'll let you guys now how the battery life is.
