That was the original story. There was some confusion as to the model type as Intel would not confirm it. The boys in Blue confirmed they are P4's (like they know...)

I doubt it. The price points are where they are, more because of market conditions than any other influences.

Yeah, wouldn't be right to charge the consumer for a security glitch. If you want to keep your goods, make sure they are tightly guarded en route.

The airport is insured. Intel is insured. Intel will get back their money and then some. Nobody loses here. BTW, if you're interested in a 3.0GHz P4 for $30, call me. 😉

No.. it's not that. It's just basic economics. Just like AMD, or Sony, or GE, or any other corporation, the pretty much charge as much as they can for their product, and still be able to sell a certain amount of units. The market (supply and demand) has more of an effect on that price than anything else.

don't they track all their chips with a certain CPU ID?
i am sure you'll be able to find out if you acquire a stolen CPU somehow.
 
I guess they could use the Chip ID, but that was a moot point when introduced in the P3(?).

Wingnutz would be the best person to ask with regard to the ability to track, but I very much doubt that any method would be tollerated. For example you would need the equivelent of a corporate virus that would run a check and report back to La Intella the ID of your CPU. Now how many PPL a)don't want to run spyware b)don't even run inhell c)would feel this an invasion of privacy, not to mention the effect of traffic in general as 100 Million CPU's are tested and communicate back.

All of the above is hypothetical, pick holes in it if you wish, but there is no real point as I don't really want to hear it...😉

Slightly naive. what really happens is the airport, intel and everyone else pays more for their insurance premiums. Insurers never lose.
