Your 10 free trees are guaranteed to grow, or the Foundation will replace them free of charge. Your six to twelve inch trees will come postpaid (Free shipping) with easy planting instructions.

If you wish, you can choose to have the 10 free trees sent to another address, such as your place of worship. You may also choose to receive the membership without the trees. You will still enjoy all of the great benefits of becoming a National Arbor Day Foundation member.

add "with $10 membership" to the thread title please or something similar. I thought it was going to be 10 free trees, no hidden costs 🙁

The trees are very small, saplings in fact. You might want to edit the title to say Saplings instead of trees, or Sprouts or something...😉

I did this, and it's good deal from good organization. Does take a while to recieve (still waiting after a month). Can't beat the price, even if they are saplings.

A word of warning. We received alot of junk mail after signing up last year. 3 weeks after receiving our trees, we were getting letters from the Arbor foundation
asking to join (We had just joined 1 month earlier) and then a slew of other charitable letters started to arrive. Mostly hippy save the earth types (save the wounded ducks, yaks etc etc)

We had 1 sapling survive, the maple.

The organization is worthwhile, but... the trees aren't even "sapplings" in my opinion : they're somewhere between stripplings and twigs. I don't know that any of my friend's survived, and she's a real green thumb. YMMV.

If you have a choice, don't get the Silver maple. The only tree more evil is a Bradford pear.

What's wrong with those trees? (I don't know anything about trees).

They are very prone to breaking (grows very fast with weak wood). They also spread seeds everywhere (although the seeds are one of the best flying maple seeds - free toy helicopters for 8 year olds.)

Just a note, it does say on the webpage that they are 6-12" in size. That would be 1 year old seedlings in most cases.

And don't forget about their invasive surface roots.:disgust:

yep, seedlings. and don't rush them lol. in fact, you'll actually want the seedlings to be shipped after they've gone dormant for the year; that really helps them survive the shipping and transplanting process. Use the time now to get the sites prepped. and if you feel inclined to add fertilizer, go very very light..........or use compost (best choice).

I read the ad and saw the size differences offered. That is why I asked specifically what size the poster received. WTF is wrong with that? I wanted to know if he received 6 inch tress or 12 inch trees.

I ordered the free one last year and it came deader than a doornail, poor tree, and what a waste of a tree to pack it.

heck, free is free. plus as fast as developers cut down trees around our house, I would love to plant some more.
