As an American I find it interesting how other cultures, who don't have a First Amendment, view free speech. I certainly think a newspaper should have the legal right to publish cartoons that mock religious iconography, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. Unfortunately it is abundantly clear that there are at least some practitioners of Islam who will not hesitate to resort to violence to avenge any perceived slight of their faith and its prophet. To me it's obviously foolish to gratuitously poke a sleeping bear with a broomstick, which is what this newspaper has a track record of doing. Here, it led to the deaths of 12 people.

None of that means that the victims deserved this - they absolutely did not, and this was an indefensible and cowardly act of terrorism. The bad guys are the terrorists, not the employees of the newspaper. Their deaths just seem pointless and unnecessary to me.

Doesnt matter if its BS. It is still their belief they were justified and carried it out as such. Funny thing about religion how it can be so easily interpreted how you want it to be.
