The study, I gather (and should have said more explicitly), was specifically about "elite" colleges. It's true that they said lower income groups representation in the total college population went up, but seems that was never the case for the top schools, even before the Reagan era reversal. So I guess the GI Bill wasn't ineffectual, but it had its limitations.
I would agree Reagan wasn't the vehicle it started before him. It was the Nixon and the following where the plan was put in motion.

The press keeps pitching another incident in Las Vegas as being connected to this one, but I have my doubts.

So a cybertruck pulls up alongside the Trump Tower in Vegas. It contains several mortars which are used for fireworks, and some cans of fuel. It explodes, killing the driver and delivering minor injuries to seven passersby. Apparently, this rental truck was also ordered on Turo.

It reads like an accident to me. New Years, fireworks. The driver was the only one killed. Explosion wasn't big enough to cause serious problems beyond the footprint of the vehicle itself. Turo is a common way to book rentals.

I haven't really followed this story ... Im still unsure what this guy was all about with this "spectacle". was he a Republican/Trump supporter or not? And, I know this guy was obviously mentally unstable with battle scars and impairments

With the Republicans in control of all the branches of government and Trump a few weeks away from being sworn in, why didn’t this guy just wait for things to get better? If he believes Trump is going to fix everything then there is no point in blowing himself up. After all, Trump isn’t actually going to do anything to fix things. He’s just going to declare them to be fixed and insult anyone who says otherwise.

Perhaps there was an underlying cynicism buried under some cognitive dissonance. We already know what Trump thinks of soldiers and sailors who sacrifice for their country.

From is suicide note:

"Why did I personally do it now? I needed to cleanse my mind of the brothers I’ve lost and relieve myself of the burden of the lives I took."

But he did it in front of Trumps motel. So his own personal demons drove him to suicide, but he decided to make his death a spectacle to garner attention for his political causes?

This guy was just a bundle of contradictions. He killed himself partly out of guilt for all the lives he took, but also thinks the US needs to be Big & Strong, to inspire Fear in all who would oppose them. Dude, how exactly do you think the US would go about doing that? Hint: It involves blowing things up and killing people.

Mental illness and/or neurological impairment does not lend itself to rational contemplation.

- Bingo. It probably all made sense in his head but on paper to some unrelated party it just seems like a bunch of cognitive dissonance.
