10 base t versus 10/100

I was wondering for my LAN if i would notice much of a difference if my computers had 10/100 cards or 10 base T cards. Do to the speed limits of the cables and such, would i get more than the 1meg/s transfer rate i get now?

You will notice a HUGE difference between 10 mbit and 100. I've seen as high as 50% utilization transfering large files between computers.
It was also an amazing difference at LAN parties when we switched to 100. The time it took to get the most updated version of counterstrike and such to everyone was cut in half at least.

If your talking about LAN transfers and "1 meg/s" means 1 MB/s then yeah, 100 is greater than 10 so 100 Mb is significantly faster than 10 Mb. If your talking about your broadband connection when you say 1 meg/s transfers and meaning 1 Mb/s then no, you'll notice no difference.

100 Base-T is exactly 10 times faster then 10 Base-T in every way shape and form.

It is in essence 10 Base-T times 10.

Even better if you are using a switch, rather than a hub.

Also....this does assume PCI NICs.
Early 10/100 NICs were ISA based, which severely hampers the network performance of those machines.
The 32-bit PCI bus is the only way to fly (for end-user equipment, that is!)

So, as much as the speed of the pipe, is your machine's ability to tap it.
