Just for a bit of fun, I decided to set up my old iBook (dead display, turns out the mini-VGA port is dead to) into a network server of sorts. To do a fresh install of Panther (newest OS i could get my hands on) , I connected the iBook via FW to my Quicksilver 733 G4 and booted it into target disk mode. I booted the G4 off the Panther disk, and installed panther onto the iBook's drive. I Booted the G4 into Panther from the iBooks drive then installed ARD 3.2.1 (newest version). Configured all the sharing settings, ARD, VNC, AFP... etc. Set the iBook to skip the login screen and go right to Finder.
Anyway, the iBook boots fine, as ARD running on my iMac tells me its logged into the Admin account i created.
Problem occurs when I try to either Control or Observe.
Chicken Of The VNC also fails.
Seems I have all the settings correct, so is it just that its running Panther? I guess I can scrounge up a copy of Tiger if that will make it work..😀 Also worth noting, I can connect to the iBooks drive via AFP and FTP perfectly fine.
Its not the end of the world If i can't get this working, as it was just pretty much a "see if i can get this working" kinda thing. Thanks in advance for you're help!
