After installing the update, machine restarted and went into a weird loop, "blue screen, loading circle", repeat. It went on for a good 15 minutes before I crossed my fingers and forced a shutdown by hitting the power button.

Computer then restarted twice before finally bringing up the desktop. Everything seems okay so far.

Yeah same with me... blue screen, black screen with text, repeat.

I did a hard reboot, it rebooted a few times on its own and then made it to the right desktop.

DS3L? Just re-patch.

I'm running 10.5.5 from your "Leopard Soup" install from a while back... is it 'safe' to update directly to 10.5.7? Or would it be easier to do a fresh install?

If you can swing it, I'd just do a fresh install with my upcoming kit, once I'm done testing it with my DS3L. Right now I'm testing both Chameleon 2.0 and PC EFI_v9 on the ES2L, DS3L, and UD3P, so 6 fresh installs total :Q

Waiting for the guide too...

Hope this fixes the sleep/shutdown bug (when you sleep and wakeup, shutdown crashes and uou have to hard cycle), the screensaver lock bug (only works when you log out and log back in) and the weird mouse stuff happening (tried the french QT fix, didn't really work, never tried any of the other fixes).

Still going to do a fresh install. WHEN the new guide comes out. 😀

Was gonna download last night, but I read that it messes up on dell mini. There is a fix, so I might try it when I have more time: link

What do you mean? I thought YOU were releasing the new guide?? :Q

Does 10.5.7 patch any security holes in 10.5.6, or does it just provide more stability or features, particularly for Apple's newer hardware?

Mouse seems great. Screensaver -- at least with hot corners -- doesn't require login. In fact, I haven't tested extensively but so far it looks like I can't even get the screen saver to come on (power save monitor off comes in 10 minutes, I set screen saver to 3, I got nothing except a blank monitor). Gonna test shutdown after sleep now.

One bug (I think) that I really would like fixed is when the computer is not in use (but not asleep, like when I leave it on overnight for a download or something) the DVD drive seems to seek about once every couple of minutes. The computer itself is pretty damn quite, so this is pretty noticable. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it?

I've noticed that on my DS3L as well.

So, SS lock is still borked, apparently (i.e. still works only after login/logout). But sleep/shutdown works fine. Audio seemed to work on the first reboot, but now is gone (I use a FW HarmonyAudio). Also, my FW enclosure doesn't seem to work. System prefs knows the HA is there, but the enclosure is now listed as an "unknown device". Hmmm....

Would a Super Duper bootable backup from DVDR be able to recover from a botched 10.5.7 update attempt?

Could be your Firewire card, I'm on a fresh 10.5.7 install here and my Miglia works great and is still recognized by the OS!

Updated through Software Update on my MacBook and things are fine. When the machine restarted, it came up and restarted about 4-5 times but things are gravy now.

Removed FW card, rebooted, stuck it in a different PCI slot, rebooted and it works fine now. Main drives are normal, FW drives are orange. Miglia works fine.

Only thing is I think the mouse bug might be back. Hmmmm.....

Which port was the FW card in before? Port 1?

It was in the bottom one first, and now it's in the second one. I probably could have put it back in the bottom one, but who cares? I'm more worried about this mouse nonsense. And I still need to backup and reinstall. But at least sound is working....

updated yesterday and everything is fine! in fact...using my 9600mGT, everything seems a LOT snappier and smoother. it was only like this if i was using the 9400m.

on another note, i read that apparently, mbp users are supposed to have the 9400/9600GT option in the battery pull down menu (next to the clock), but i dont have that, as well as a lot of other people according to macrumors.com. oh well, that doesnt really bother me.

I don't have that either.
