This was on the front page of Yahoo news tody so it must be a slow news day and I missed this back in October probably because caught up in the push for McCain to either tie at 269 or win by like 2. ;)

Anyway this holds so true and dear to probably 98% or better of the posters in here that provlaim how rich they are, not affected by the down economy, jobs are secure and pepeputually say they pay the most in taxes while at the same time bragging how muc they don't pay in taxes.

Bottom line is the rich can pay people to hide the fact they cheat.

I hope Obama nails every one of them espcecially the braggers in here.

10-23-2008 How the Rich Cheat On Their Taxes

A new study based on unpublished Internal Revenue Service data shows the rich are different when it comes to paying taxes:

They hide more of their income.

The previously unreported study estimates that taxpayers whose true income was between $500,000 and $1 million a year understated their adjusted gross incomes by 21% overall in 2001, compared to an 8% underreporting rate for those earning $50,000 to $100,000 and even lower rates for those earning less. (The "net misreporting rate" as the IRS calls it, includes both underreported income and inflated deductions.)

n all, because of their higher noncompliance rates, those with true incomes of $200,000 or more received 25% of all income, but accounted for 40% of net underreported income and 42% of underreported tax in 2001, the new analysis finds.

The study was written by Joel Slemrod, an economics professor and director of the Office of Tax Policy Research at the University of Michigan's business school and IRS economist Andrew Johns. It has not been officially endorsed or even released by the IRS and seems sure to add fuel to the election season debate over whether those earning $250,000 or more should pay higher tax rates, as Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, has proposed.

When we tax the shit out of the rich the whole economy will suddenly right itself. Thirty years of tax breaks have busted the economy. At least with high tax rates everyone has to work their asses off to maintain their living standards, not just the middle class.

What a crazy concept!!

Show me how hard the CEO of the likes of AIG etc worked for their millions upon millions.

What about doctors lawyers, dentists. You know, CEOs are a very small percentage of those in the top tax bracket

This is a stupid report. It's using numbers to confuse the uneducated masses. Of course, dmcowen picks up on it right away.

I would be willing to bet that Obama doesn't do jack to make the rich pay more over the course of his first term. After all, he comes from the most corrupt state in the country.

The Rich don't work any harder than the rest of us, they're merely luckier...

If you believe that, you're a dumb fool. However, your first sentence in this thread already alludes to it, the most contrite you've been over your obscenely idiotic prediction about McCain's 269 electoral votes.

Why should someone who earns more pay more simply because they earn more? Do they take up more government provided resources than others? Bit of a goofball generalization you're making about rich people. Big deal if someone is born into more affluence than you, it's still not your property. You don't get to vote yourself other people's stuff just because your conspiratorial brain thinks every rich person is out to sleight you.

Besides, what do you think determines wages above the enforced minimum? It's the amount of capital the possessors of capital have to outbid each other for a fixed resource pool of labor. The more you tax them, the more you tax yourself. That's exactly what happened in the 30s when the highest bracket was sustaining 100% of losses and keeping 10% of profits, private capital was not participating to employ people and risk a business because there was no incentive. That some knuckleheads overpay themselves in the biggest companies is immaterial. If doing so contributed to the failure of the company against a competitor who did not, then that company fails and the good one survives. It's self-regulating unless socialism keeps it going with redistribution, as there will always be a competitor who will use the capital to lower prices instead of bloat his salary. That's exactly what happened to AIG. AIG was going to fail from stupid projections on foreclosure rates, its bonehead management was not going get its golden parachutes until their friends in Washington stepped in, stole money from you and me, and gave it to them.

Oh gosh, Dave. Give the rich man a break.

It's dreadfully difficult to keep track of all those strangely-named off-shore accounts. I'm not surprized that a few dozen fall through the cracks.

Besides, the more money the rich have, the better off we are as a nation--they just keep on spendin' while the rest of us hit up the soup kitchen. Hey, if they're feeling good after last night's martinis and caviar, perhaps they'll drop the left-overs at the local mission. Think positive.

Think of it as an economic "buffer."

If I'm so "uneducated" then how come you have a problem with reading comprehension that the thing you are refering to in my sig is for historical reference only to educate people like you?

 Educate us? Educate us on how to break the law? Educate us on how to ask for a bailout when faced with the repercussions of your illegal activity?

Like how you educate us on your ignorance and trolling here? You can't even read an article and interpret it properly.

Why do you hate America? You rejoice with every bad news you here. You only blame republicans when democrats are just as much to blame. You scream $200 oil/$10 gas when the price of oil goes up one day but then silent when the price of oil continues to go down, crying that it's 110% greed and can't explain why the price is going down.

Seriously, leave the country, your criminal past may not follow you.

Any money that the rich get to keep, they invest it in other forms or spends it.

The trickle down effect creates jobs and stimulates the economy. It is not fair to the poor people, but they actually indirectly benefit it.

Can we seriously put the final nail in the coffin for trickle-down economics and its associated position against progressive taxation? The declining economic middle class is beginning to wake up against this "class warfare" that has been fought against them for the past 20 years or so... Besides, it isn't news to us that the rich cheat more on their taxes simply because they have the resources to effectively do so. If the lower classes could cheat to the same extent, they would. Wealth begets wealth, and poverty begets poverty. Sure, there are exceptions, but this is the overall rule for Americans despite their individual knowledge and ambitions. Social mobility in the USA has taken a nosedive as the tax code has become less progressive...

As has been stated before, most middle income Americans dont use what tax breaks they DO have. Thats no one's fault but their own. Im middle class and my taxable income ends up being about 25 sometimes 30% of my gross....
