I don't need it but couldn't resist. I hope I don't have software problems so many complain about with this product. Otherwise I bought a great paperweight.
 
I don't know if I should go for one. I have a mp3 player right now but its not very good. 20gb sony, its beat up and the software is soooo bad.

How good of a deal is this really.
 
How do you find out about Woot VIP sales. I looked all over the Woot website and could find nothing on this offer. Do they email this to certain VIP's or post it only on Anandtech. Just curious.

Its the first time they've had a VIP sale like this. And they emailed the info about this to people who purchased Zune's from woot during past sales.


And the odds are this is a brand new Zune (not refurb'd) that MS just wants to clearance out but they're listing them as refurbished as to not piss off stores selling them at higher prices. Refurbed stuff generally does not come in retail packaging with a full retail warranty.

I could be wrong, but either way, its a good deal.

I'm kinda curious about that myself!

Did I read in the item description correctly that these are going to be selling for $149 later? Is that the going rate for a refurbed Zune?
 
I got 2 yesterday afternoon. Link still worked earlier this morning.

I understand the FW update is due out in mid-Nov., is that correct?

Yep, its supposed to come out when the new Zunes are released. Its actually quite nice of MS to give these older models all of the functionality of the new ones.
 
Sorry, I'm out of the loop. Physically, what's the difference, if any, between the older (what we're buying now) and the soon to be released models? I guess functiotionally, once we update the FW they should be pretty much equal?

Yeah I'll jump on it right now if this will be the same as the new one after the update...mostly...whats going to be different. 100 bucks for a sweet player seems good but how much do these go for usually
 
new one has a screen that is a bit bigger. 3" vs 3.2" ? and it's smaller and lighter

edit: oh and the new zune's have touchpads.

i finally bit on the Zune. Been wanting to get one because i wanted to get something diffrent from an ipod

Thats just to get people to buy them 😉. You could have 100,000 of them but it would still be limited, right?


When I first saw this I went to the page where it requested card info etc and talked myself out of it.

Next day I bought one. 30gb for 100 bucks is a steal, and I have a hook up in my car for MP3 players so it will work perfect. And black is hot.
 
Thanks OP ... in for two, hope it's worth the bargain & software more useful than iTunes.

I have a 2 GB IPod Nano & I'm not crazy about being locked into the iTunes software on my PC. Useful for PodCasts, tho. My iPod also has a tendency to 'freeze' or 'lock up' like a flaky computer quite frequently. Afterwards, I have to let the battery run down to nothing so it shuts off, then recharge & hope it's OK, which it usually is.

Here's hoping the Zune impresses. Thanks again OP.
