"you are looking right now at a parking garage,...well, not a parking garage, but a covered parking lot, as some might say..."

im sorry but this is the absolute worst commentary I've ever heard on television. I can't even watch this crap anymore.

I hope they catch this guy soon.

A shining moment of depth and insight... the only thing worse than these people being allowed to broadcast on national TV is the fact that we as a nation keep tuning into be spoon fed by these fools.

Now which one am I?? The pot, or the kettle? 🙂

You would kinda assume that this fuscker is no longer driving around in a big white van wouldn't you? I mean he'd be a moron to keep driving around in that thing with all the damn media coverage. I hope they catch this bastard tonite 🙁

Fvck this motherfcker. Shot the lady while her husband was standing right next to her!!!

:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|v

Those reporters asking the cop question are freaking idiots. They keep asking the same things over and over.

Police "we are looking for a cream colored astrovan with a silver ladder rack"

reporter "do you know the license plate"

WTF? Yea someone saw the license plate but we didn't think it was important.

I've got to agree with you here... This guy is a filthy bastard that deserves a horrible, horrible death, but he is also sharp. Like it or not, all signs point to this guy being an intellectual. It's a scary, scary situation when you get guys like this on the wrong side of the law. Right now this guy is playing chess with the authorities and schooling them. Get Chuck Moose off the case and bring in the big boys.

Why do they keep saying "hopefully" the husband saw something. He just SAW his WIFE GET MURDERED!!! Hopefully he is OK right now. They keep talking about the husband like he saw something ordinary and impersonal. I am sure he is upset.

There are two major things that bother me most about this whole tragedy:

1) The media coverage and moronic police leaks are basically helping this jerk make sure he has next to no chance of being caught. I'd be absolutely shocked if this moron is still driving around in a white van . . . and with one taillight out since that's the latest media leak. Even if he's still in it, he'll be sure to fix the taillight now :| I realize it's a VERY newsworthy series of events. I'd want to know the latest too. But there's a difference between the public's right to know and interfering with an ongoing investigation. Unfortunately, our media couldn't give a rat's ass about doing something for the public good like sitting on leaked or 'off the record' information which might help the police get a leg up on the sniper. Instead, they immediately run to the cameras to try and scoop everybody else with the latest inside tip and let the sniper know what they're looking for so he can avoid it.

One of my favorite aspects in one of Tom Clancy's books (can't remember which now) is when Jack Ryan as president (in a time of war) convinces the media to cooperate with him to make it look like some warships are still in drydock when in fact they're on their way to a mission. The idea that our media could get off their "journalistic" high horse and truly do something truly for the greater good is probably the most 'out there' idea of all the fictitious things Tom Clancy has ever written.

2) Assuming this guy's not a terrorist (most of the talking heads I've seen seem to be hypothesizing that he's not) then he's giving them (as well as copy cat killers) yet another idea on how to inflict terror. A few dozen snipers running loose around the country would make life miserable.

I think the only way they catch this guy is if he gets too bold. Trys to pick off multiple people at once, trys to go after a group of cops, etc. Anyone else feeling uneasy about their GTA3 escapades?

Parrotheader, I understand what you are saying but the comments related to what he is driving (creme colored astrovan with tailout out) is information that is being freely put out by Police in the area with the intention of getting that information out. I agree, it seems logical that at this point the sniper would logically abandon the van.

The tarot card leak, and the words on the tarot card, is one thing. The chief of police telling the media at a press conference what he is driving, is something else entirely. It may not seem logical to you that they releasing that information, but its obviously being put out for a reason, and you can't fault the media for reporting that. Personally, I believe that if in fact he is operating using a white van, that he will continue to use that van for as long as he feels secure. His ability to use the same vehicle and dissapear virtually without a trace only doubles the public fear. I can't imagine living in the area, I'd be scared of every single white van I saw all day.

I agree. And if his actions up to this point hold true, he may not make this mistake. Slow, mythodical, planned and consistent. IMHO, it's going to take a "Uni-Bomber" type slipup on his part to get caught.

And yes, GTA3 is put up for awhile.

I'd personally love to see a media black out on this. Issue public advisory anouncements and leave it at that. Cut off the media coverage and this guys ego strokes skretch to a halt. He's most likely setting in front of a TV right now letting his head swell. Oh well... never going to happen.

I know it sounds insensitive, but I was just thinking GTA4 might get delayed if this keeps up.

What if his appetite is growing?
It's possible that after this killing and perhaps another few, he'll be packing up and heading towards California.
With his ego, he might be gunning for a celebrity next.

Since there are less interstate freeways, I think this is a good time for police to keep an eye on all major roads that leads
from the East Coast to California.

What kind of power do the cops have in searching white vans/trucks anyway? I wouldn't be surprised if this guy has been stopped at a highway roadblock already and just passed on through as a regular citizen as long as he hid the rifle away in a very clever spot. Don't think the cops are fine combing through these vans or are they? This guy wouldn't be too obvious at a roadblock.

MSNBC reported that a tarot card was found in the van and a sign on the dashboard read "Gihad in America." A tarot card was also found at one of the shootings.

The van's owner was questioned Monday night by police and released with no charges filed.

What if this is not one person but a group of trigger happy Muslim Extremists taking turns to keep the police off guard?

I know what you're saying. What I also meant to say (and got off track with due to my frustration with the media) is basically what codehack said. A media blackout, short of public safety advisories of course, might go a long way toward cutting off the feeding of this guy's ego and possibly give the police and FBI to conduct an investigation without constantly being on camera.

I am just thinking that with all the "catch the white van" craze the sniper will simply start using a different medium of transportartion.

Just from studying this guys trends over the past week, I don't think that he is going anywhere. Just my thoughts on why...

-He has resources readily availible in the DC area.
-He knows the area like the back of his hand.
-He can go about his normal life by day, blend in, and then snipe at the opportune moment.
-Virtually countless suburban targets.

All of the items above have led to this guys ability to conduct terror sucessfully. Take him out of his element and he is going to slip up. You never know though. This guy has definitely got a couple of crossed wires.
