oh yeah, forgot to mention that I'm getting this for my new Inspiron 4000. Not so pissed that I forgot to buy the internal NIC now :)

Same thing on clearance at Office Depot B&M if it is the Linksys USB Network Adapter Model No. USB10T. $19.95, no rebate required.

Also, if you use this external USB one, you will save an IRQ, which may be handy in the future. In addition, swapable to another system quickly.

I don't understand how a 10/100 mb/s NIC could work with a USB port. The speed of the USB port is only 12mb/s. The card may be able to receive data at 100 mb/s but it is impossible for it to transmit data to the computer faster than 12 mb/s through the USB connection.

You are correct, the one I mention is 10, not 100. Great for cable modem connection or to transport.
