I just bought and installed a new ASUS M4A88T-M Motherboard, everything went fine except for the front panel connector on my hp case (HP P6200z). the cable is a 10-1 Pin Cable but the motherboard has a 20-8 pin System Panel Connector.
I connected it anyways in many different positions but it doesn't boot .The LEDS on the back of the case and on the motherboard light up but when I go to power it up... it doesn't boot. I tried to insert each pin individually but I accidently took off the plastic cover all at once without knowing which pin does what. each is pin colored: green, blue, yellow, white, and 2 reds (one is lighter than the other) 6 Pins in total

This is what im dealing with:

This is what I have except the solid is on top:

Is there anyway I can make my computer boot NOW? without having to buy something else, And if I do need an additional piece, what is it?

Couldn't you just make your own cables out of some old copper wiring or something? Plug one end into the applicable hole and connect the other end to the header on the mobo?

Or you could buy a better case...

Yes, I agree that the best thing to do is to get a new (or used) case that is the individual wires for the power button, reset button, hard drive LED, and power LED.

You ought to give some thought to what you should do before actually doing it. The biggest mistake I'd say is that you've pulled every wire out before mapping out what goes where. I am familiar with what you're doing as I re-purposed an Acer casing for a 3rd party motherboard which I changed the consolidated block connector to an individual 2 pin that I salvaged from another casing.

The fastest method would be to just short out the 2 power ON pins with a flat head screwdriver but it is just a temporary fix. What you should do is trace back the wires back to the other end at the front panel. Identify which color leads to where depending on the switch it is attached to and try your luck. If all else fails, strip the outer core and it will show every individual wires and its color, making it easier to identify.

Once everything is in working order, get some masking tape, electrical tape or better yet, heatshrink to insulate the metal ends of the connector as the close proximity of each wires will short each other out causing it to work erratically.

it should tell you on the hps original mother board which wire is which If you plug the fp connector in.
