Sounds tempting, but don't have time to read over all the conditions right now. Anybody have experience with this?

Seems like you can still do this.. from what it looks like, because it says "A copy of your final transcript showing that you did indeed graduate as a full-time student from a U.S. college or university."...... Which I am guessing thats referring to this May.. She should be able to send it, you cant send your final transcript when you dont have grades yet correct ? Anyone want to help me out on this

I started reading up on it to see if she would be eligible...and it looks like she would be. I'll let her know about it.

GtPrOjEcTX,

What did you get out of reading the conditions ? I was reading them but Im not sure if I understood them all, it seems you have to fly with United once to collect these "Free" 10,000 miles ??

looks like it...

Your membership account will be activated by flying one qualifying United Airlines flight on which mileage is accrued, or by any other method authorized under the program. If you do not activate your account within twelve months after enrollment, or if you fail at any time to earn any mileage for three consecutive years, your account and accrued mileage, if any, may be terminated. Once activated, your account may become inactive if you fail to earn any mileage during a period of twelve consecutive months. When your account is inactive, you will not receive notification of program changes or other mailings about Mileage Plus or United College Plus.

but I wonder what falls under the "any other method authorixed under the program"

The 10,000 miles are absolutely free as long as you follow the rules. and 10k equals to about half a domestic round trip ticket so yes, it's a HOT DEAL.

GtPrOjEcTX,

this is so great! We have so many people here who just love to go dig up the fine prints and spend the time to read it. This is good, that's how one figure out if a deal is really a deal or not.

This 10K miles for college student offer has been around for a long long time, though it's not very well known. I guess it's because United is not all that eager to promote their Unite College Plus program to students at this time. Just look at how they try to promote their mileage program to grocery shoppers.. spend $250 and earn 150 miles.. ehh. just 150 miles.. I would say forget it.

This offer is on-going, and United is not trying to trick you or anything. No strings attached. 10000 free miles when you graduate. Period. Of course, do have to follow the general program rule, that is if there is no mileage earning activity in 3 consective years, your mile expires. But there are lots of mileage earning opportunities without taking any flight.

so, relax.. free 10K miles really is free 10K miles. This offer is also good for graduate students too! It's good for all students pursuing BS, BA, MS, MA, PhD, MD.. not good for technical schools like DeVry, ITT..etc..

United needs loyal customers and why not start with soon to be traveling professionals.

I graduate with my masters degree on the 17th so why not.

The miles do come and, yes, an unofficial transcript will do, as long as you're a full-time student in the final semester/quarter. I'm not even sure if they verified with the registrar or not; I did not have to include that information when I mailed my stuff in.

A domestic RT ticket costs 20k miles.

UAL offers lots of opportunities to earn bonus miles:
travel within certain periods between certain places
using e-Check-in
signing up with affiliates (hotel/rental/business services)
signing up for their VISA card (20k-mile sign-up bonus, $60/yr annual fee)

1 mile is worth about 1¢ - 1.5¢, based on "average" airfares.

Well, I signed up, graduate in about a month, sounds cool. I think you need like 25,000 miles just to do anything though, don't you. Whatever, thanks!

A good deal that always comes up every spring, which is definitely a good thing =)
I did this last year, and I still haven't used my miles

I'll have to do something about that heh

You need 25k miles to redeem an roundtrip ticket within US/Canada (exlcuding hawaii). It really shouldn't be hard to reach 25k miles.

if you want to spend the $60 to get the united mileage plus visa card, you can earn 20000 bonus miles for just getting that card! Take a look this post earn upto 40000 united miles for getting the mileage plus visa card

You can also get the College United Mileage Plus Visa Card which has no annual fee. Also check into doing IDine with United - if you enroll one of your credit cards, you can dine at a variety of restaurants around the country (there is a huge list) and you usually get 10 miles per $1 you spend automatically, or something like that. It's really a great deal.
