I've been pondering this sentence for several minutes now, and I just can't figure it out. Is 10,000 BC a remake of an earlier film?

yea I'm trying to figure that out too... I thought 10,000 BC was supposed to be new material.

either way, I'm not ashamed to say I enjoy Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow... both are enjoyable and entertaining imho. But I'm not a critic, and will never hold a position as such. I don't like not enjoying movies. Watching a movie should be enjoyable. I don't want to waste my time bashing and critiquing a movie, unless its utter trash then I just laugh the whole time. But a lot of 'trash' I have actually enjoyed. I have a wide movie taste and I will continue to have that taste, because thats more movies that entertain me! :)

So.. anyone that sees it.... tell me if its comparable to ID and TDAT. If it's typical Emmerich, then I'll be happy and watch it. In the theater? Not sure... $6 for student tickets isn't that bad of a price if its at least enjoyable (to me) to some degree.

I will watch it James Berardinelli gives it at least two stars (out of four). I like his reviews and often agree with his ratings 90% of the time. Two stars for a mindless special-effects movie is decent.

Speaking of mindless SFX-overload movies, there can be few worse than Poseidon, one of the most boring pieces of predictable shite I've ever sat through. I still haven't figured out how someone spends $250 million to make a movie that doesn't cause your heartbeat to go up by a single percentage point even once.

this is obviously one of those movies where they've spent all their money on CGI and no money on plot/script, acting, directing, or editing.

Heh. Would you expect anything else from Roland Emmerich?

... Independence Day made a BAD MOVIE? :Q

i didn't even think I.D. was all that good
i saw it when it came out and couldn't figure out why it was #1 box office all summer

Stars like Will Smith with lots of mindless action with big explosions and what not.

I think it was the first big Alien Invasion Special Effects Spectacular so that had alot to do with it.

yeah. ID wasn't great by any mans, pretty stupid in the long run. But it's a fun movie to watch.

Stupid, but fun. I find myself watching it whenever it's on TV

BC looks like it's downright insulting.

When I saw that the director/co-writer of this was also the director/writer of Day after Tomorrow, I knew it would stink. He has a habit of making films with spectacular views and craptacular storylines.

I don't think he even cares about the plot, except as a vehicle to drive the special effects.

Edit: I did like Independence Day. I blame that on Will Smith though. Will Smith even made a Martin Lawrence movie good, so you can't underestimate how he can turn a garbage movie into a mindless but enjoyable one.

I too heard it was pretty bad. I remember watching the trailer thinking it looked kinda neat, then saw it was from the guy who did the day after tomorrow and knew it'd be crap.

I had thought about going to see it as I couldn't think of another movie that I wanted to see this weekend. Maybe I will go see The Bucket List instead.

not 1 person in this thread has seen it yet, and the only people who are bombing it are the same people who expect to see a Braveheart epic movie when they go and watch Meet The Spartans.

Woww...I was actually excited to see this movie. I know not to blindly trust Rotten Tomatoes but damn such a vast agreement amongst critics that the movie blows.

Umm.. Roland Emmerich's movies ALWAYS suck, and this one looks even worse than his usual dreck.

(I'll give him some kudos for Stargate, but other than that...)

Even Stargate was stretched to it's creative limits in the series. I wasn't too fond of the later seasons.

The trailer built this movie up for me - just looked visually awesome like 300...

searching 10000 brings up the post. so you obviously didn't search :p

btw, I enjoyed all of Emmerich's movies. I don't like really judging a movie unless its an atrocious B or C movie. I'd rather not realize I had wasted time or money by bashing a movie at the end, and instead I enjoy most movies I have watched. Then again, I usually know what kind of movies I'm going to like prior to even watching them, so that limits my dislike based on story or known director faults. But Emmerich's movies I've enjoyed. Stargate? ID4? Godzilla? The Patriot? The Day After Tomorrow? Check, check, check, check, and check. Enjoyed them all.
I'll probably like this movie. Some movies just aren't meant for critical judgment, and are there for pure enjoyment.

Searching 10,000 shows nothing. Didn't think people would forget the comma.

meant to say '10000 BC' and '10,000 BC' also works
for some reason, the search shows nothing when its only '10,000' or '10000' but add BC to it and it has results. screwy search filter.

ask yourself if a movie with sabertooth tigers and pyramids and the use of the english language... could ever be described as historically accurate. ;)

True. I thought it might have been trying to emulate Apocalypto in trying to some kind of superhistorical thing. Didn't even relaize it was in English. Just looks dumb overall
