A lot of people are saying its a failure because we are still there AFTER Bush said it was a victory...

How long were we in Germany and Japan after World War II? Imagine what this world would be like if today's liberals would be running that show. We would call World War II a failure because we're not out of Germany and Japan in six months. We're still in Germany and Japan. lol...

We got our oil, got a thug, now we can leave. Job well done.

The reason Germany and Japan worked out so well was because their countries were DEVASTED. They were eager to rebuild. We needed to carpet bomb Iraq and MOAB bomb them, THEN rebuild.

Liberals were running that show.;)

By that reasoning we could say if today's Neo-cons were running the show, Japan would have surrendered to the Soviets and the commies would have beat us to Berlin. That way we would only would have had to worry about re-constructing France.

However, comparing the Iraqi War II to WW2 is comparing elbows to assholes.

No, people are saying that because we are still getting lots of people killed over there every day. To my knowledge, no such thing happened in Japan or Germany after the war. I don't doubt that troops were killed while rebuilding those countries, but it wasn't as bad as this. Additionally, Bush looks foolish for not having a real rebuilding plan in the way that Marshall and Truman helped set one up after WWII.

I wouldn't really say the neo-cons are running the show in Iraq they are mainly running around like chickens with their heads cut off. We have no plan for anything and when we do come up with a plan we do the complete opsite a few weeks later.

US has lost just over 700 soldiers in the last year or so. World War II, US lost tens of thousands in one day. It only seems bad because US population has lost its stomache for war. Half the country thinks US soldiers should be invincible thanks to all the money spent on training so all the dead soldiers are basically imbeciles. Those with any idea of what it takes to bulldoze a nation of millions and then rebuild it are not in the critical loop. By the time any good idea is implemented, the window has passed and buffoons use the failure as fuel for their own fantastic ideas.
Rebuilding Japan and Germany succeeded for one reason : overwhelming force. Japan didn't really have the resources to wage any type of conflict against a large occupying force (emphasis on large). Germany didn't have the personnel to resist occupation by four different nations. Iraq, on the other hand, is receiving a large amount of supplies from both sympathizers and the occupying forces. In addition, the population is abundant in military-age persons with a deep-sated hatred for the US. To suppress resistence, there are only 135,000 troops to cover about 24 Million people over a couple hundred thousand square miles. US troops would have to be T-1000's to patrol that effectively.

You Bush apologists crack me up. You are preaching to the choir. The point is THE BANNER NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. The grandstanding was stupid enough but a banner proclaiming something that was simply not true was just an asshatted attempt to placate the people in this country with IQ's below 100. Look further up in the post to see them in their blissful glory of ignorance. WWII? End of Major Battles? Pft. Move along now nothing to see here but the SSDD.

You would think based on eTech's post that the ship is still docked at port with nothing left to do.

Sorry about your Son :(

How brave and valient of them to declare the Misson was Accomplished when their army and marine brothers and sisters have died to the tune of 700+ since then. I guess all the dead soldiers didn't get the memo that the mission was accomplished. What a shame.

End of story.

Considering his son died in Iraq, I doubt that. And that banner was much more than one chosen by the ship's crew, and that's obvious, otherwise it would not have been in the photo-op.

What's the "end of story" bit for?

The difference is, we had an honorable purpose for being there. In this case, we do not. It's an illegitimate war based on lies.

In fact, it was recently revealed that it was bush administration officials who made that banner. I don't know where e-tech is getting this bs from.

We got our oil, got a thug, now we can leave. Job well done.

Now let's do the same thing and instead we will compare vietnam to Iraq, does it fit better? Indeed it does, is Japan and Germany incomparble to Iraq, indeed they are.

Now that we got that out of the way, would you say that in 30-100 years from now there will be military bases in Iraq? As the puppet regime in Iraq won't handle security or law enforcement, who will?

Now, it has already costed hundreds of billions to do this, how much is the final bill? 500 billions or three trillions?

AND, which terrorist connections have been uncovered by this? Which WMD's ready to use against the US have they found? Anything, anything at all? Except turning the world agains the US, killing 700+ Americans, tenths of thousands of Iraqi civilians, getting loads of people new jobs as insurgents and possible terrorists, what has been accomplished?

So these are money and lives basically just thrown away, while increasing the spending and cutting taxes, it doesn't take even a ten year old to figure out that if you do that, you will need to pay up sooner or later´.

I am so sorry for your son. I don't know what to say except that i am sorry for your loss and i am sorry if anything i have written about the Iraq war and soldiers dying in vain offends your sons memory, it was not my intention. Not at all. In fact i would salute every one of them and tell them to be proud for their service.

Take care.
