1 TB hard drive

If you've got the patience, there's the 1TB external from CC on Black Friday for $200 AR. That will of course require patience in waiting until then, and in waiting in line, and in waiting for the $50 rebate.

Not only double cache, but higher density platters for higher STR. That WD drive... isn't it one of their "green" drives? It'll be good for low power consumption and high capacity for a cheap price, but performance isn't all that.

What brand? Is it 2x500GB or a single TB inside? $250 before rebate sounds decent for a 1TB drive.

Western Digital My Book? Essential Edition? 2.0 (Model WDH1U10000N).

The physical dimesions makes me want to believe it's a single drive inside.

Height 6.5 Inches (Max)
Length 5.4 Inches (Max)
Width 2.1 Inches

1 yr warranty.

notice the 1 year warranty

i would rather live with that than seagates which are the loudest in the current generation + reports of perpendicular tech drives failing prematurely

Or if you're REALLY patient, just wait a couple months and $200/TB will be pretty common. It's already very easy to find 500GB drives for $100.
