Hello guys!

I have a radeon 5850 and have my tv (1920 x 1080) connected to it using an HDMI cable
The LCD monitor (1920 x 1200) is connected using a DVI cable.

Is there a way that I can run 2 independent resolutions with these 2 monitors.

I currently mirror, or extend the image, but that results in a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 for both.

Do I need eyefinity for this?
And does eyefinity only work when the display port is active?

Thanks!

You should just be able to set the resolution in windows. I run my TV at 1080p and my monitor at 1680x1050 with no problems.

I can just right click on the desktop, select 'screen resolution' and set each monitor differently (just click on the number of the monitor and set the resolution. Should work fine.

I'm running a 1920x1080 and 1680x1050 monitor at 127 and 123 Hz respectively on a 4890. DVI for both.

Thanks guys!

Found it...For some reason, the PC monitor will go back to a mirrored resolution after about 1 minute after applying separate settings.
I'm using an ATI 5850, with a 25.5 Asus LCD and a Sony 1080P TV.

press Win+P to bring up window's built-in graphics switching thing.

are you under "Extend"? If not, select extend (use the mouse to click on it, or toggle over to it by pressing win+P again).

After you've selected "extend" in the win+p menu, then go and set up your resolutions.

note: windows will remember different settings for these, so you can very quickly switch between different choices of how your monitors are set up, very easy/convenient.

Note2: perhaps you can repeat this procedure for all the other menu options under win+P, maybe your computer doesn't like the extend option?

oh, and when are you going to add a 3rd monitor there? The adapter (active display port to DVI) is less than $30, very much worth it in my opinion after switching from dual monitor to triple monitor. But then again, I will use my computer for work sometimes, where I keep a PDF up on the left screen, a Visio drawing on the right screen, and my word document on the middle screen.

No need for a 3rd monitor yet :)
Tempting, just can't find a reason to use all 3.
I usually play a movie on the tv while browsing or working on the PC so I need the dual monitor setup.

Recently I was able to play a movie on the tv and a game on the LCD while streaming separate audio signals for each.

From what I understand, I cannot just connect 3 monitors and expect them to work?

2 DVI + 1 HDMI won't work unless I buy the above adapter?

And I don't see a display port to hdmi adapter anywhere, just display port to DVI?

...just playing around

Thanks for the help everyone!
