1% needs to start paying their fair share of taxes >:

You got the top 2 percent paying almost half of all income taxes. Is that fair?

IRS figures show the top 1 percent of earners take home 16.9 percent of the nation's total income, but pay 36.7 percent of the nation's income taxes.

The top 5 percent take home a little more than 31 percent of total income but pay almost 59 percent of all income taxes.

For the bottom 50 percent of taxpayers, the average rate is 1.85 percent.

Many conservatives seem to operate under the assumption that there is some natural state of affairs where the very rich would get to keep all of the money they currently make and have and that that is somehow the baseline of what is fair. That is simply not the case. Our society is governed by a set of rules that is serving these people very well. If government didn't exist, they would not have as much income as they do. In the current economy, I doubt the population is going to the very wealthy get away with paying less than they currently are.

The notion of "fair share" is inherently flawed.

Let's stipulate that your numbers are correct, and the top earners pay most of the taxes. Despite this, wealth inequality is growing. The top 10%, and especially the top 1%, are the only ones who have been getting ahead over the last 20 or so years.

Do you just think that's okay?

Fair share is everybody paying a flat 20% federal and 10% state. Make the government figure out their shit on that money and nothing more.

ANY time somebody wants new services, the government should be required to raise taxes? Dont want higher taxes? YOU DONT GET ANY MORE CRAP! DEAL WITH IT!

when you factor in income taxes, payroll taxes, and state and local taxes, tax burdens for all income levels are proportionate. All the hoopla over federal taxes is asinine. After eking out a living, there is nothing left to send to the feds.

I hate how liberals say that the rich don't pay their fair share. At the same time, I hate Faux News for suggesting that taxation should be "fair" rather than abolished. Why should anyone be pissed off that some people don't pay taxes?

at this point, we actually probably should just straight redistribute wealth and start over.

The 99% will rise up the 1%.

It is not a matter of if, it is a matter if when.

The when is coming quicker and quicker everyday as evidenced by the increase in the amount of talk about it.

The rich are looking over their shoulders and they should be.

Can they not pay more?

Why punish success? So what if one day the top 1% holds 99% of all the wealth, they earned it. If you just redistribute it, people will have no incentive to work hard.

The biggest problem with liberal thinking is the notion that the economy and wealth is a zero sum game. Makes them look stupid but they can only repeat what they are told. I can start a new business tomorrow with nothing but my hands and a few bucks and in 10 years or less be making serious money...the kind to put me into the 1%. Anyone can. It is just the majority of average Joe liberals are too stupid or lazy to do so.

For the average American, it is a Zero Sum game.

Let's make things really fair and get rid of government altogether. How long do you think Bill Gates would last against Mike Tyson if there were no police around to keep things civil? The people defending the rich love to bend over backwards to criticize government treating the rich "unfairly" without acknowledging that "unfairly" goes both ways; the rich pay more in taxes, but they also get unprecedented access to power and government protection. They should pay their fare share; it just happens to be a whole hell of a lot more than the average American.

If the rich people really object to paying money back to the state that allowed them to get rich in the first place, then they are perfectly welcome to dismantle their empires and go and live in Somalia instead.

There are no taxes to pay there, because there isn't a state. Of course, there isn't any education either so they might struggle to employ anyone useful. Then, there are no roads, so the few employees they get might struggle to get to work...

Oh, and there is police force, so they might get killed.

But hey! No taxes to pay.

All they have to do is hide their wealth in other countries, like Mitt Romney does. They still get to live here and benefit from our institutions

That's ridiculous. The vast majority of businesses fail.

It's physically impossible for everybody to be rich. Do you not understand that? If everyone is a millionaire, being a millionaire doesn't make you rich.
