I'm 31 and I buy my stuff from FS/FT. I let the idiots...I mean young'ns pay the premium and buy it off them after they test it out.

27. don't really care about specs per se, but I need it *fast* or I get irritated.

not sure what the intention of the poll is. I don't consider computer building to be my hobby, but I don't want lag to get in my way of using my computer, which translates into higher specs.

26 and Computer specs mean the world to me. I wouldn't appear as your average computer geek in real life, until you got to know me, but definitely overclocking and building the best machines is one of my supreme hobbies.

Over 50 and I don't care what my specs are. I care about the speed of my computer and what it will do. Because the speed of my computer is determined by specs, I am very interested in the specs.

Yes, contradictory.

OP: how would you vote if you felt this way?

I'm in my forties and I care about computer specs when I'm doing to buy one. I don't pay much attention to the advance of computer tech in between purchases. This means that when I buy a new one I have to ask the Best Buy folks which ones are good. The one I have is five years old so it will soon be time.

I'm 28. Specs used to mean a LOT to me but who gives a crap now, ya know? As long as it can do what I want it to do, I'm happy.

27 and I don't care about specs anymore, to a certain point.

I'm running a 3 year old desktop (E6600, 2GB, 8800 GTS) which was great for gaming (and probably still is for some titles). I stopped gaming about a year ago though as other things have occupied my time.

Now I just use it to manage mp3s, torrent videos, email and surf the web. It's more than snappy enough for that. My old P4 at work, while it handled work programs and surfing, was pretty slow for multitasking - if that was my home machine, I would have gotten rid of it.

I'll probably keep this machine another 2-3 years or until it's too underpowered for basic stuff, and then move to a mainstream laptop at that point.

I used to but not anymore. I am 28 and just don't care as much. I bought my current notebook and after about six months I regretted it. I just ordered a new one and got a Dell Studio 15 with an i3 and integrated graphics. I'll slide in my 60GB Vertex and call it a day. I used to have quad cores, water cooling, RAID, and all that mess but have given that up and don't even own a desktop any more.

25 and a PC gamer, so I need the specs. When I bought my (non-gaming) laptop all I cared about was that it had at least 2gb of memory so I could run Photoshop without too much trouble. Also I'm a CS student and soon-to-be professional developer so it's good to be on top of things like quad-core CPUs.

I'm 27 and as long as I can play whatever game I want well enough, I'm happy. I'm way more concerned about the specs of my work computer since that stuff actually matters.

I need decent specs when I'm editing video and working with big files in Photoshop/InDesign/Illustrator. Otherwise, a computer that "just runs" is fine.

late 20s. computer specs only matter insofar as I can play WoW and also ensure computer compatibility and decent bang-for-my-buck.

Well I'm not hardcore but current build is:
i7 920
6 gigs Ram
GTX 260

So not the highest end but something I won't be upgrading for awhile. Might put a SSD in it at some point just because.

26, and I don't care that much. As long as it works and isn't ridiculously slow I don't mind.

34 and 'no'.

All I really need it to do is manage my photo, music collection and be an internet portal. Never really got into gaming.

I'm over 40, and computer specs only matter as long as my machine will do what I want it to do. I don't game as much as I used to, but when a game comes out that I want to play, I make sure I'm able to. The rest of my computer activity is fairly pedestrian. I could do most of my stuff on my old P4.

33. No.

I upgraded my desktop two years ago and my laptop last year. I bought my laptop in 2002 and my desktop went through it's last major hw upgrade in 2002 as well (AMD Athlon 1600+). It was time for an upgrade.

Did not go the "make my own desktop" this time. Just got a system at Costco a couple of years ago that was decent (Gateway FX4710 and a 24" LCD). Works great for my needs (no longer into PC Gaming).

Upgraded the laptop from a 2002 Compaq Evo n600c to a HP HDX 16 last year.
