It's not just kids driving the sales of the Wii. It is the first console I have bought since I am fine with PC gaming and I bought it solely because it is the first time my wife has ever expressed any interest in a video game system and she loves it. The genius of Nintendo was figuring out that designing a system that gets you off your ass and moving around to play it would give them a unique angle in the console business.
I saw some in Target when I was picking up Rock Band 2 and I was tempted to buy one just 'cause chicks dig it

. Amusingly enough, I was there for maybe 5-10 minutes and in that time, I believe 4 or 5 of the 7 sold, but I did get there around 2:30 PM, so I wonder how long they were sitting there. I ended up not buying one (and I've had many chances in the past) mostly because I know I'll never use it (the only game I might play is Mario and maybe Mario Kart) and everyone I know that owns one never uses it. My brother and friend even waited outside Target for over a day just to get one and they never play it.
My mom bought one for my little brother for Christmas... mostly because he's mentally retarded but still likes playing video games (even though it's hard for him because he has trouble using his left hand). Being able to do things by merely moving rather than having to fidget around with the buttons may be easier. It also gives me an idea of something to give him as he always liked playing Naruto Gekito Ninja Taisen 4 on the Gamecube (I had an imported copy), and I could easily get the Naruto game for the Wii for $20 from Target (costs $50 on Amazon). My mom also ended up getting a WiiFit, but not sure who's going to use that
