Normally we feed our 14(?) year old cat Meow Mix because according to her, its the cats meow (well she eats it anyway). But I was thinking, is it worth feeding cats stuff like 9lives? Its a pricer choice, but I dunno.

We do give her treats sometimes, but 9lives brand cat food might not be what she prefers. She might treat it like something the cat dragged in. :frown:

edit: And now for a pic of my old cat named "Mother". She's got her, "Who you lookin' at?" face on.

Weve had the old pussy for quite sometime. Sadly her sister (who was born in 1988 and died in 2005) was killed by two dogs. I loved that old cat. We called her "Fluffy".

This one is called "mother".

Yup.

I never heard of a cat eating dog food. I may have to check into this. Any suggestions?

My cats get Alley Cat, and they love it. I used to get Meow Mix every so often, but I think it was too rich, and my tom would puke it up. Keep giving Mother what she likes. She's too old to be screwing with her routine.

Errr... I was joking. Kinda. I dunno how cats would like dog food, but *I* don't like cat food and like dog food better. Cat food tastes like bitter liver and gives me the runs. Dog food tastes like liver pate and is ok for my stomach. Cheap!

Also I am pretty sure cats need the Taurine in cat food to survive and most dog food does not have it.

Don't give dog food to a cat. Cats are carnivorous so only eat meat. Dogs are omnivorous so most dog food is grain soaked in animal meat. If I were you I'd just read the labels.

I give my cat canned Friskies. She likes it. She'll eat dry food too but she doesn't seem to like it one bit and will only barely nibble at it and always beg me for food if that's all she has in her dish. So I give her the canned stuff instead.

We do that also but we give it more as a treat and only give them some of the can 2-3 times a day.

Also how old is your cat since when cats start getting old they can have a problem eating the hard food if their teeth are bad and if she starts loosing weight you may need to get a vet to check her out to see if that's why and keep a supply for the soft food in there more often or it could just be she knows she has you trained by now. ;)

We use Science Diet for our cat. Thank God he acts much more like a dog than a cat or I would have a really hard time dropping $20/mo on food for the thing.

Correct. Cats need taurine or they will go blind. We have one cat who lost most of his vision due to taurine deficiency while he was a stray.

To the OP, if your cat has made it this far w/o health problems with meow-mix then no point in switching. Meow mix is kind of like Doritos for cats, they love it, but it is usually not considered the best choice. If you do switch, do it slowly or expect a few days of diarrhea.

My cat does vomit on occasion. Luckily shes an outdoor cat that enjoys roaming the backyard and controlling her perch on the back porch. I did know that MM was the "Doritos" of cat food. :Q

Would the dog equivalent be Kibbles and Bits? Our last dog loved that stuff.
Current dog has been spoiled with Purina, first puppy formula and now I cannot remember what my folks give her, maybe small breed since she is only 40lbs... really should be like 35, the little pig.
