1.9GHz Barcelona at launch, not 2.2 or 2.3GHz

The Inquirer - Channel grumbles over further AMD Barcelona delays

SYSTEM INTEGRATORS who were told to expect supplies of AMD Barcelona processors during mid-August said there's a hitch which is preventing AMD from delivering on its promises.

As we reported here in June, AMD Barcelonas will officially launch on the 10th of September. But the channel was promised 2GHz and 2.3GHz Barcelonas in August. Now they've been told that the only part widely available at launch will be at 1.9GHz.

So far AMD has not told the channel when it can expect deliveries of the higher speed parts, or when the backlog will clear.

It is the latest hitch in what's proved to be troubled waters for AMD's flagship microprocessor.

Last year, the channel was very disappointed with AMD allocating microprocessors to Dell while they were left with shortages and promises. It's not clear at press time whether the delays of Barcelonas are to do with technology problems, or whether the multinationals are getting preferential treatment over the channel.

Guess what they probably shipped all this 2.3s and 2.0s to their Dell buddies. Already said they won't do this again to retail people, now here we go again. I guess Dell is bigger business than us retail buyers I do admit, but I still don't like been treated second class. :[

Yeah, it's kinda like going to BestBuy and they're saying "Up to $500 savings on all TV's!" but actually it's $500 on their $15K tv and everything else is $25 off. I hate terms like 'up to' because it usually misleading.

I hope @1.9gig it's potent enough to stomp the excisting comparable 2.4-2.5gig AMD parts otherwise its not going to matter what frequency they get out of it.

Yeah, but the complaint here is that best buy said "Up to $500 savings!" (2.0GHz) and the savings weren't actually $600 (2.3GHz).

But the 2GHz parts aren't readily available either. So is this more like a Black Friday sale where there's probably one of the items available so they can advertise it? 😛

What a bunch of cynics in this thread

What has AMD ever done to cause so many to be so cynical?

Oh wait, I think the answer would be "see 2007"...:brokenheart:

Hmmm...just bought some AMDs today under 12. Looking for a take-over north of 13. AMD is in bad shape. Absorbing ATI was a HUGE mistake.

how is "up to" misleading? I write ads for a car dealership every week, and "up to" is very clear imho. writing something like "10000 off ford f150s guaranteed available" makes it much more difficult for the average consumer to figure out the program 😉

Not nearly as huge as hiring ol' Hector, though. He's completely ran that company into the ground, not to mention, he was responsible for the ATI fiasco.

But but but, he did such a good job helping Moto (when they actually made chips) run into the ground...how could anyone have ever expected such to befall AMD?

Well if anything I am consistant. AMD buying ATI was a Smart move . JUst bad timing. I made a occupational move at a late age but the timing was great. Went from tech to nursing best move I ever made.

I agree hector is a full blown clown at the wheel of a huge company that needs to get serious . Don't need clown at the wheel.

I stay away from the stock market for very good reasons. I have invested and I am still invested . But because of the banking industry I have learned its all just a huge game they play.

The recent morgage swindle is the proof of this . Inorder for the banks to recover the bad loans they made . THEY are causing the Stock market melt down.
Stealing investors $$$ inorder to cover their losses.

SEC regulators are a joke. A lot of rich people should go to jail after this melt down . Martha going to prison was an injustic. Insider trading among the Banks and huge investment houses is as common as dirt among the Top players. Muniplating the price off stocks is as easy as eating ice cream IF your a manager of a huge fund.

Lets say I was manager of huge fund and owned 10% or more of a certain stock . I could team up with another manager. That owns an equal amount in said stock. If we secretly worked together (which is whats going on) . We could control a stocks buy selling and buying at differant times . One sells to lower prices the other buys to recover the stocks he sold at another time . In this manner huge amounts of $$$ can be made in each quarter while the stock price at the beginning of the quarter and end barely moves up or down . Effectively giving the retirement found zero gains for us small investors and the managed fund managers reap in huge profits that never are relized by the fund.

Yep $$$ is KING of the world and the people who control $$$ . Are as crooked as a wangling river.

Anyway I think K10 is going to be good and AMD should come out of this miss a little bruised but alot stronger in the long run.
