Is this a good MB??
Is this a good price??

Looks pretty hot to me, nice upgrade for the old celeron 600🙂

Last Friday Fry's in the Bay Area had a one day sale for a similar combo which I ended up buying.

P4 1.6 ghz
VIA P4XB-S M/B

The P4 is NOT a Northwood. It is a bare cpu, no heatsink or fan. I would have preferred a Northwood, but at $159 (the one day sale price), this is still a good deal. I'm still deciding whether or not I should keep this as the price of P4's should be dropping soon.

I doubt I'm going to be doing any OC'ing, but how is this board overall? Also, how low are the prices supposed to drop for P4's? Could I conceivably get this package for much less if i just wait a little bit?

EDIT:
farstar, the funny thing is that I also bought this combo to upgrade my celeron 600.

Fry's always seems to be having cpu/mb deals, for $179 do they offer a faster speed Athlon combo? That is if you'd be willing to buy an Athlon.

I got my Athlon XP 1800+ with ECS K7S5A motherboard for $179 sometime in February.. It was on sale for $159 on their one day sale, but now it's back at $179 again. And damn all you Intel fanboys.

I think I will hold off and see where the prices go when Intel drops the P4 price next month. P4 pricedrops will put pressure on Athlon prices and I'm not against buying AMD. I picked up the Compaq laptop with the 900 MHZ Duron that Fry's had for $799 two months ago and my wife loves it.
