Ok I just got my System Up and running...I have all the memory settings in the BIOS Tops...2-2-2-2-5 ect... and I got it running stable it looks like at 140FSB..Using Turbo 1 Setting. If I go above 140FSB the system sometimes wont go into XP Correctly or go into XP then Lock up...Could this be my VCORE? does it need to be upped? I have it at the default setting in the BIOS 1.500V ( its like 1.600V tho in MBM)..and I have tried to Up it and it does no use...it still is unstable. I got a 300watt Sparkle PSU, Could that Be IT? Crucial PC2100 256mb DDR (which I have Had for about 8 months)...could that be the problem?> One other thing should what you guys got ur CAS at for those high FSB's? can you get Good DDR333 Ram and put it at CAS 2 and all at like a 150FSB+?

Also, my P4 Retail Box, came with the HSF...but the heatsink wasnt the Round ORB like one made by SVC..it was the Regular heatsink...Are all the P4's Retailed like this?

I got a Costa Rica, Batch: 2/14/02

BTW is there any BIOS Setting I should choose to help the OC? What Should my AGP Appature be set at? I put it at 128mb...Cause I heard it should be half the Physical RAM amount.

Uh ohh... You have my system and I haven't started really OCing yet. Finally put it together last night and have it at 133FSB until I get a new NIC for it (my old linksys apparently doesn't work anymore).

My chip is the same Costa Rica "Valentine's Day" as yours, and no, the retail HS/Fan that came with it was not round but was rectangular. What a PITA to get those clips snapped in without juggling the thing, so I could lock the thing down. :frown:

Right now, I'm running at default Vcore and have Mushkin PC2700 RAM in there, with the BIOS at Turbo1. My PS is an Antec 303XP which is 2.03-compliant and has a 12V plug (which is what I'm using rather than the EZ-plug). I'm using an old Trident 4MB PCI video card in there (I prefer PCI if I'm going to up the FSB alot) and plan to stick a 3COM NIC in.

Hope to hear from others today with a similar rig as us to get an idea of how far we could go.

[EDIT: This setup is caseless BTW. 😀]

If you guys think the install of the retail Intel HSF is a pain, you should try and get an HSF on an AMD Athlon chip without breaking it (the chip). Talk about a PITA. Once you do some Athlons you'll never diss the Intel HSF again. Relatively speaking, it's easy.

LOL the P4 HSF is a very sweet Design I wasnt Complaining LOL..Maybe Poof was, but I wasnt

and BTW I have 2 AThlon Systems, a 1.0GHZ@1.4GHZ Athlon-C AXIA and a Athlon XP 1600+...I agree the Athlon HSF's are a lot more complicated and could damage the Core when you put them on..The p4 Design is Soo Good....Wish AMD would think of something like it, or even use the same one..so we wouldnt Have to get diff HSF's for Intel and AMD.

Could someone Help me though? With my Questions?
Still having problems..

Hey now - I'm sorry if the Anandtech rigs can't show more than 10 machines. I have 16 including AMDs that include an XP, a T-bird, and a Duron. 😉 I have both a GW FOP38 and a GW copper CAK that I've put on those machines, MANY TIMES, in under 10 seconds - WITHOUT any problem, I might add. You guys are too rough on CPUs trying to be macho or something. 😛 We ladies prefer to use tools (like a flathead screwdriver) to carefully press the locking bar down and clip the thing on.

So THERE! 😛

Anyway - I have been putzing with this P4 and all I can say is OMFG!!!!! :Q I have it running at 160MHz FSB and I'm running SETI on it right now. Don't know how long it will last but I think it helps that I keep most of my OC'd rigs caseless, with "supplemental cooling" (ie., an 8" consumer fan blowing right on the HS/fan...lol). I'm trying to find a free plug to add one for this P4.

If this thing holds, then it will be my 2nd Costa Rica that did okay for me (my other is an SL4Y P3 600E slot 1, currently running at 972 w/162MHz FSB & Kingmax TinyBGA PC150 - plus a slot1 GW HS/fan with AS).

I'll be watching this baby. I have the Vcore at 1.70V (although there's a possibility that I could have put it under 1.7V but higher than 1.6V, as it would boot to the BIOS at the lower voltages and I got sick of adding 0.025V increments and just jumped to 1.7V). I was happy enough that it at least hit 140 @default Vcore and decided to go on and give it 0.025V for 150FSB for good measure. 🙂
