I think you've gotten a bigger intercooler since that picture, haven't you?

Bigger intercooler, smaller 2.2L engine vs a 2.5L (revs higher and more top end), big valves cylinder head, a different turbo, bigger injectors, Microsquirt, Koni coilover, etc...

The answer is still Miata because it's going to be a major PITA to get parts for a Honda Beat, let alone one that's left hand drive.
If he can afford to import the parts from Japan, and can afford to wait for them .... then he's fine ...

RHD is perfectly legal in the US. Only thing you need Left Hand Drive is the drive through for the ATM, Bank, Prescriptions, or Fast Food.

Oh no, I have to park the car in the parking lot instead of using the drive thru.
On no, I have to stop the car and walk around the car to pay and get ticket.

Come on guys, this is now getting silly.

From the other side of the coin, you get a lot of rationalizing of a large laundry list of negatives just for some novelty factor of a tinier than normal car.

If you're not buying a car as an emotional choice, you might as well buy a Camry or Rav4. If you are, buy what makes you happy.

Or you can choose something that has emotional appeal without such a huge list a negatives. It doesn't have to be a Camry or a 25 year old RHD Kei car.

Choosing car based on "emotional appeal" doesn't make it immune from criticism either.

I'll take a smart roaster, you got one of those? Oh wait, we can't have that either as it isn't 25 year old yet.

Seems like the fun factor goes down quite a bit if you can't enjoy your toys when you want to because they're broken. In that case I would start now, hoarding as many parts as possible before they break, doing a leisure restore of the vehicle. Honda or not, it is still an old car.

Maybe he has a tool shop or has a friend with a shop and can fabricate many of the parts himself?
Maybe he likes working on cars?
There are a lot of reasons why somebody might love Kei cars.
I have always dreamed of owning a Citreon 2CV, if I was wealthy and had 100 cars, I would have one, even if it's completely impractical to own in today's world.

In England for a car that was actaully sold in England.

Now how about for Honda Beat in the USA?

You might not be aware of this, but you can actually order things from England and have it shipped to the US. Shocking, I know.

I'm not really sure what's so hard to understand about buying a cheap car as a toy.

I am not sure if you are aware of this, but it's a PITA to have to Ebay parts from another country to fix your car.

Which part is hard? Waiting a bit longer?
The word "hard" does not appear anywhere in PITA. Two different concepts, sometimes related, sometimes not.

It is true, it is a PITA to deal with overseas, used, car parts, from one-off sellers. For even more fun let's add wiring the money to Nigeria.
