Directron $6.00 Used Floppy Drive. OK, so this may not be hot for some but, I am building a system and have run out of floppy drives. I had to buy 2 because minimum order is $10.00 shipping was reasonable @ $5.00. I need an extra laying around anyway. Yes they are used but who cares... IT'S A FLOPPY DRIVE !!!!

I think the floppy industry is run by the mob. You have to pay for something you will never/rarely use but, You wouldn't dare build a system without one.

At the same time, this inexpensive device is the only permanent storage device you need to get an RC5 node up and crack for Team Anandtech using the Linux + RC5 client-on-a-disk called Klinux made by our very own Kilowatt! A cheap way to put those old computer parts to good use!

Klinux

For help on getting it setup and joining the TeAm just post in the Distributed Computing Forum

Great deal! I need five more. Thanks!

You can get new sony floppy drive at Fry's for $6.00. Brrrrr! it's cool in here. If you want cheat used floppy call your local PC repair shop, that's a good place to pick up used parts. I bought a couple of PS units for $4.00 ea. that way

I tried to build a PC without a floppy drive once. Big, big, big mistake! Windows and other software kept trying to check the A: drive and although they would ultimately time-out and continue, the wait time became unbearable :disgust:. I broke down and installed a floppy.

Yea, I have a broken floppy in my PC for just that reason. Haven't used a floppy in years.

A bad floppy can burn out your power supply, possibly damaging other components of the PC.
I would never buy a second hand floppy for this reason.

I built a comp without a floppy drive and got no problems.(winXP & K7S5A) You have to disable it in bios.

I don't want to spent $1 for anything useless. Who uses floppy drives anyway?
