1/4" to 3.5mm headphone converter?

Hey,

Ive had a running issue with my Sennheiser HD580's where every 6-9 months i have to buy a new headphone cable as it begins crackling in the right ear, fixable by jiggling the cable a bit.

After paying $22 dollars for new cables 4-5 times, I went to check for cheaper cables this time. On an AV forum, using google, one suggested which was about $8 cheaper and supposedly was the base headphones for the HD650's, which was a bit higher quality.

On purchasing (assumed the picture showed it with an adapter on, as the $20 cable always came with a 3.5 -> 1/4 adapter included), it has come with a 1/4" jack which is sort of useless for my purposes.

Im essentially asking -

1) Do i try to return them and buy the new cable

2) Do I buy a 1/4" -> 3.5mm converter? (never seen one.) Im no audiophile by any means, but if it would cause a noticable degredation in signal I would be hesitant.

If I am to buy a 1/4" -> 3.5mm converter, can anyone link one please so i dont screw up a second time?

Thanks

The problem isn't the cable, but the connector in the headphone. They use springs to clamp onto the plug and they get weak over time, causing intermittent connections. Send the cans back to Senneheiser to get them fixed. I had to do these with my HD580 Jubilee's but never had a problem after I got them back.

There was a lot of discussion way back when on this at Head-fi. They had pictures of the offending assembly in the headphone and you can open them up and work on the spring yourself. However, the problem does not seem to reoccur after sending them in for repairs and I have not had the problem on my (relatively) recently made HD650's so Sennheiser may have a more permanent fix.

in terms of repairs, for some reason buying a new cable has fixed it for the longest time

I had called Sennheiser about a repair about a year back but they said it would cost a fair bit. My dad took pity on me about a year and a half ago and bought me a new pair of hd580s, and the problem still occurs so im thinking i may just stress or accidentally yank on the cable a bit.

I did try to work on the spring myself at one point, but there didnt seem much i could do.

By the way, thanks PurdueRy.

See, my brain would have glazed over that, as the title is "1/8" jack to 1/4" plug"

To me, plug is the knobby end and jack is the input. 1/4" knobby end = wrong ! 🙁

Their picture at least makes sense though.

Yes, their title is wrong...but the item is right. It's the same price in their stores.
